Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

CBS could be regretting that decision as that game has lost its luster this year. If we somehow beat or even play Bama tight, then our game means more.

Maybe the most lackluster Florida-Georgia game I can remember in some time.

So does anyone have any reason, besides blind optimism and hope, that we can beat Bama?

I'm looking at some stats, and it's not pretty.

McCarron 69.2% comp, 14 TD, 3 INT
Team Rushing: 6.0 YPC
Receiving: Top 6 receivers averaging over 10 yards per catch.
Scoring: 40.7 ppg
Defense: 9.7 ppg

Besides Texas A&M (42), no one has scored more than 10. A pretty good Ole Miss was shut out.

So let's hear it boys! and please don't just post this:

1. Our defense matches up well with their pro style offense. McCarron is no threat to run with the ball.

2. Their ppg is high because they've played quite a bit of scrubs.

3. The vols have shown the last 2 games that they can compete against better teams.

Vols 27 Alabama 24

Listen, their OL has had issues, and we can stuff them up the corners. We need to roll coverage to Coleman in certain situations and take our chances with Cam in coverage.

Also on offense, we need to be diversified, and poised and look for big plays against their secondary and take them when they are there.

Our Oline needs to find the next gear of nasty.

Some say we cant beat Bama, I say why the hell not.

Go Vols!

We cannot lose to this team and their fans. This past weekend was a warmup for the real first signature win of the Butch Jones Era.

Listening to Cowerd talk about Ohio State not being anywhere close to the same level as Bama, Oregon, etc. Mentioned their schedule being remarkably easier and lack of quality opponents...

(Paraphrasing) "They won't play one team in the Top 15 in Meyer's first 24 games, Tennessee plays nine in that time frame.

SIAP, has Marcus Jackson maintained his redshirt through Bullard missing some snaps?

Yep. Crowder, Kerbyson are the only linemen who have got snaps as a 6th OL or as a replacement for an injured starter. Wiesman is also getting playing time on the punt team. Jackson has not played at all.

Someone posted earlier about North's catch being a program changer. I agree. I re-watched that play (and several subsequent slo-mo replays due to the injured SC player) about 10 times yesterday, and have a hard time describing how big I think that catch was.

Watching it over and over, the ball almost slipping through his left hand, it just felt like the ball was a microcosm of the long-term trajectory of our program. It almost fell incomplete and North just willed that ball to stay in his hand. It was truly an amazing catch and meant even more than the 39-yard gain and game winning position that it enabled.

And, we should get one of those letters from the league (even though it didn't cause us any harm) acknowledging the complete incompetence of ANY official, to not pull a flag on that play!

Dat be me...

Changes mentality of the team, all of a sudden they know HOW to win, and establishes CBJ as an SEC coach.

I agree about the catch. I've rewatched the final 5 minutes of the game already a couple of times on the ESPN Watch App. So utterly electric. It's almost an impossible catch. I thought when watching it live that Worley was just heaving a prayer, and I even worried it might get picked off. I had zero expectations of North catching that thing.

But once he did, I was fairly calm. I knew we were going to win it. The moment just felt right.

It's amazing. I'll probably watch that thing 10 more times before this weekend...

And it keeps the crazies in the Tennessee fan base at bay (for a time), which is equally important. I'm tired of the negativity and "fire the coach (or assistant coaches)" mentality. Ready to watch a winning team and not have to listen to that for a few years.

I'm sure Finescum will be fair and detail reasons for you on ESPN College Gameday this Saturday morning like he did with our chances against TAM.

Both Florida and Georgia are 4-3. Both are unranked. Both coming off back-to-back losses. Both 3-2 in the SEC. The loser slips to .500 on the year and in the conference.

Wouldn't have put money on that in August. They should be on CBS though. Just like Tennessee vs Bama should be. It's a tremendous game regardless of the records or players.
