One of the biggest reasons for optimism about Tennessee’s future is the obvious ability of this staff to get so much improvement from so many of its players in such a short period of time.

The same quarterback (Justin Worley) who couldn’t please anyone earlier this season has led two go-ahead drives in the fourth quarter against two top-15 opponents in his past two games. The same tailback (Rajion Neal) who couldn’t get extra yards the past several years suddenly is grinding out plenty of yards after contact. The same wide receivers (Pig Howard and Marquez North) who couldn’t make big plays when they needed to make them earlier this season now are making circus-style catches. The same kicker (Michael Palardy) who couldn’t make clutch kicks to save his life is now one of the league’s better punters and kickers. The same defensive line that couldn’t affect even FCS quarterbacks now is recording multiple sacks every week. The same secondary that surrendered nearly 500 passing yards at Oregon has held two of the nation’s best senior quarterbacks to less than 200 yards passing in its past two games. The same defense that couldn’t get off the field on third down against South Alabama routinely got off the field against Georgia and South Carolina.

I think we finish 7-5. We find a way to beat Mizzou. Home field advantage and a backup QB for Vandy will mean we win that one by 10+. Kentucky will be icing on the cake.

I'm convinced Worley is going to have at least one break out game of 250 or more yards before this year is over. I think it comes against Vandy or Kentucky.

If you believe in DAJ's statistics and he was right about USC then we'll lose to Auburn and Alabama and win out the rest. Mizzou is playing well above their talent level however so there is that. It could be argued the UGA team they faced was depleted and their equivalent maybe but the UF game solidified that they are playing at a level above their recruiting. Auburn is as well but DAJ projected we lose to them.
We need just one more "upset" and I feel good about this teams chances given 3 tries.

Hey guys, guess what? IT'S BAMA WEEK!! Let's go boys! Fight for every inch this week and let's continue our rise to the top!

Everybody keeps talking about Spurrier being a big dumb arse there but I disagree. He went full on Riverboat gambler, hoping to end the game. Only problem was Butch threw a Royal Flush down on the table.

Spurrier is nowhere close to Dooley but I think most people, including the announcers, couldn't help but think it was a terrible usage at the time it all went down. We can easily say that those timeouts were irrelevant but Spurrier didn't know they would be when he used them. He played pocket threes IMO lol. But if it worked we'd all hate him for it haha.

Goh I just now got caught up in this thread. Huge win for UT. So happy for the players, especially the seniors.

No other program in the nation needed a win like this. It's been a long time coming. I thought the game plan was great. Offense was a little shaky at some points, but they stepped up when it mattered the most.

Shaw was 7-21 passing. He threw his 1st pick of the year to Sutton. Sutton kinda came back down to earth a little bit Saturday. Still made a good adjustment on the pick. Coleman did his usual. Not sure why USCe didn't try to pick on him more. I figured Davis would get his and he did. He's a bull for a RB.

Azzanni owes North a steak dinner. Damn what a catch.

Lastly, I got to the Vol Walk early enough to have a great spot. Got to high 5 Butch, most of the players, and Johnny Majors. Pretty cool

Edit: Also hats off to Marlin Lane coming back from injury. Ran tough and was really determined on the last drive.

Outside of Palardy Janek and the secondary in particular are story book transformations.
You have to love what this defense did to Shaw. You could see how visibly perplexed Spurrier was about their passing game. Murray had lost a ton of his surrounding talent but still mustered a win. A week later against a more mobile QB and a healthy receiving corps and we noticeably took the pass away because Shaw had a fair amount of time yet we still often contained him aside from a few runs.

My biggest concern with our current team is the back end of our secondary doesn't seem athletic enough to prevent the big play.

They've steadily progressed at an even faster rate than the offense who has been no slouch in improvement. Remember Riyhad is back and Maybin is becoming a factor. I think that speed will help us continue to improve in containment.

If you guys haven't seen the Butch Jones show from this week, check it out. The 1st 5 minutes will make you run through a brick wall! Very well done.

I'll have to record it. WAs so amped following the game I forgot to set the DVR. I wanted to watch Spurrier's too. After his douchery during the week leading up to the game I was glad to see his smug ass knocked back a peg.

I know you aren't picking on him in particular, but my comment just seemed to fit here....

I am by no means defending him because he has struggled this year, but Coleman getting burned by Byrd for the long TD doesn't really surprise me because Byrd is a burner and would have run by a great number of quality corners in the country. (I wanted to say that Byrd could fly, but that would have been too easy :hi:)

If we win the remaining games on our schedule, we will likely win the SEC East. Obviously that is unlikely, but pulling off an epic upset win against Bama would make this a quasi-realistic possibility.

Don't get me wrong, the catch was amazing. That's what the best players do. However, I'm equally as impressed with this catch:

He just straight beasted on him. Talk about high-pointing the ball...

That catch was awesome! He RIPPED that ball out of the air.

New strategy for Alabama game: Throw the ball anywhere in a 5 yard vicinity of North and let him go for the ball. Winner/

I had an argument or two with people two weeks ago that we weren't jinxed! I understand how people started thinking there was some supernatural workings against us but it had started to make me nervous the more people would say it. Things like that become self-fulfilling prophesies sometimes. Hood said we finally have a game we can talk about when we are 90! Really happy for these guys but sad at the same time that it should never have gotten as bad as it did here.

Out of curiosity, why would you think Auburn would be more difficult than Mizzou? ...

You make some good points and I tend to agree. Auburn by comparison (Mizzou) is loaded on both sides of the ball. Mizzou has the benefit of continuity. Neither D concerns me as much as their O --- both are proficient. To have an opportunity we need to expedite our O development if not, we will struggle.

Congrats to your Tigers. I think you have a great coach in Malzahn. He's been pretty successful everywhere he's been.

Bama's in for the toughest game they've played all year. Our team finally knows how to win, they have confidence and swagger. They believe. A great coaching staff can do wonders for a team.

The fans are starting to come around now too. If we beat Bama this weekend most of our fans will finally be back expecting to win. And we will expect to win out and go to a January bowl. Many thought it would take 2-3 years to get back to winning big games but maybe Butch has different plans.

I think we match-up very well vs. Bama and are going to win the game. Even if we don't win it'll be a close one in the 2nd half, our boys don't quit. Butch will have the team playing like champions this weekend.
