Anyone else think Worley looked better, after the hand?

I'm starting to think there might be as many psychological hurdles for him as there are mental and physical. I'd really like to see what a full-swagger JW looks like instead of the one who seems unsure of himself out there a lot of the time....

Great responses. I think I misstated my point.

The SEC as a conference is probably the best conference, top to bottom.

I think the individual teams are being overrated in the polls.

Mostly, Missouri jumping to #5 appalls me. Auburn's jump is crazy too, but it's harder to argue against A&M as a quality win as opposed to Georgia and Florida.

FSU, Oregon are legit in other conferences, for sure, but I doubt few "top teams" could play our schedule and come out unscathed.

People use VOLS as a barometer as to the strength of teams outside of the SEC, due to us playing this insane schedule. I wonder if we play Alabama tight if Oregon goes to number one?

I kinda think Worley needs to take a big blindside hit in the pocket (that doesn't injure him) so he won't be so scared. He always seems to play better after getting hit a couple of times, even if it's just after he tucks it and runs.

I was at the Grove all day yesterday. I made it a point to yell "Go Vols!" at every person wearing a Power T in Oxford. Saw several Vol fans.

I love this University. I love this state. I love this team. I love our fans. Butch MF'n Jones!

Wow, we've gotta have a top 5 SOS. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the hardest. Geez...

I think Mizzou is a bit too high. They're good but I see them losing at least one before the SECCG. They've still got usce, UT, @Ole Miss, and A&M(not sure where that one is). Don't think our veteran guys don't want payback vs them too. I think they caught uga at a good time after they lost so many players vs us and they were hyped like we were yesterday at home for uf which has crap for offense.

I think Miami is overrated and will get destroyed Nov 3 @fsu.

Ohio St should go undefeated and should get left out in the cold. Any of the top 3 would blast them and give Urban another heart attack.

Baylor at 6 is an interesting team. They've scored 69+ points in every game except Kst, which was their only road game so far and won 35-25. I heard a stat earlier that Baylor would still have a top 15 offense without counting any of their 2nd half stats. lol that's crazy. They may win the Big 12 but I doubt their D could make them a legit NC contender.

I think bama, oregon, and fsu are clearly the top 3 and two of those will play for the NC. I'd have fsu #1 right now. I think they're the most complete team and Winston has a chance to make people say Johnny who? Kid is super good.
I'd like to see a matchup of any of those three.

I really haven't paid much attention to the polls the last few years but how much fun will it be when we're hopefully back in this conversation in a couple years.

Just think how close we are to being 6-1 right now and in the conversation this year kinda like auburn. If Peterman doesn't have the worst half of football for any cfb qb in several years @uf and we score points on all of uf's mistakes in that 1st half we could've won that game. We all know how the uga game ended but just think how close we really are to being ranked #11 right now like auburn is at 6-1. Heck, at worse we're 5-2 with the uf loss and probably still in the top 25.

I think the players on this team realize how close they are to being 6-1 too. We may not go into Tuscaloosa and win but I'd bet the farm we don't lose by 27+. That's a slap in the face! bama was favored by 27-28 vs uk and ark. I hope they think we suck as bad as both those teams bc if they do they're in for a surprise. I think we match up well with bama. Them losing Sunseri will help some plus our defense is good for knocking multiple opposing players out every game haha. Nobody can tell me our 09 team that lost 12-10 down there was better coached and playing with more confidence than team 117. JMO

We play seven teams that are or have been ranked. In fact, all seven have been ranked in the top 11 at one time or another.

Did you know that since Urban Meyer has been at Ohio State, they have never faced a top 15 team?

“I’m still in disbelief,” Walls said. “We’ve been in a lot of situations like this when we should have won, but our love for Coach Jones and each other pushed us through the day.”

I have all the respect in the world for Marlon Walls. Difficult times but a true Volunteer. He is setting a great example for everyone in the team.

Apparently Austin Carta-Samuels is done for the season/his career at Vandy. Likely has a torn ACL.

Their new QB is a redshirt freshman named Patton Robinette. A 3* from Maryville, TN.

ACS seemed like a pretty decent QB. Gotta wonder how their offense will look with this new guy under center.

Tons of people on this board wanted Robinette to get an offer.

Does anyone remember that 11 yard run that Worley made in the 4th quarter that also had a horse-collar penalty? I remember thinking, "Geez, Worley's got some wheels." I'm quite befuddled why he wont keep it some times with a QB keep. Anybody have any idea as to why?

When did the injury occur? (I was at the game and stuck in traffic/driving home for four hours) I know Vandy came back from a pretty good deficit...

Yep. Worley beat him with his eyes closed and North caught it with the DB clearly grabbing him before the ball got there. Spurrier's cryin' but I'll give him credit for admitting the Vols beat them. Clearly, he's not himself. Who's going to replace him in the next couple of years? My guess is Charlie Strong.

The streak is over. 19 previous times the Vols lined up against a ranked team and lost. The last win vs a ranked team came two head coaches ago on an October night in 2009 against South Carolina. This victory is special for many reasons, from Butch Jones' first signature win to snapping the losing streak against ranked teams. The Vols have a rough stretch of games ahead, facing Alabama and Missouri on the road before returning to Neyland Stadium to face the Auburn Tigers. The Vols currently sit at 4-3 overall, and are in much better position to go to a bowl game than before the victory against South Carolina. Below are the rankings for various position groups from yesterday's win.

Quarterbacks: B
Worley will not blow anyone away with his passing stats (although he had better stats than Shaw), but he committed no turnovers and had a crucial run for a first down in the 4th quarter. Worley's demeanor seems to have changed over the past several weeks, and there is no doubt he is playing with more confidence every week. There were several throws that were close to being intercepted, and the drop by Cody Blanc was under thrown. Pig Howard and Marquez North are developing more every week and are becoming Worley's favorite targets.

Running Backs: B+
Raijon Neal is quietly having a great senior season for the Vols and Marlin Lane helped ice the game late in the fourth quarter. There were no fumbles, although Neal's "forward pass" is one of the most perplexing plays this year. The Vols offense is reliant on the running game, and the running backs have answered the call this year. Neal had arguably his best game as a Vol vs Georgia, and he continued the positive momentum this week. Jadaveon Clowney was about to wreak havoc in the backfield in the game, but overall the running backs had a great game with a lot to build on in the future.
Offensive Line: B+
The Vols most experienced unit started the game a little shaky, but in the 2nd half they were able to pound away at the Gamecocks defense. At several points throughout the game, the conditioning difference between the teams was noticeable. The Vols were great in pass protection, and after a few plays made by Clowney were able to realign and run block effectively. The matchup between Tiny Richardson and Clowney was not as favorable as last year for Richardson, but several times when Clowney was in the backfield, Richardson's assignment was not on Clowney for the play.

Wide Receivers: A-
If Cody Blanc does not drop the bomb in the first half the wide receivers would receive an A. Marquez North had two great catches in the game, and the catch on the final drive is bound to go down in Tennessee football lore. It is exciting to see the young wide receivers make plays, and Vol fans have to be confident they will continue to improve throughout the year. Pig Howard still needs to get more touches during the game, as he has shown he is more than just a quick wide receiver and can put his head down to get the first down.

Defensive Line: A-
It is hard to pick a most improved unit on the defense because it was historically bad last season, but it is hard to argue with the defensive line. Daniel Hood, Corey Miller, and Marlon Walls are all having their best seasons ever as Vols. Hood was continually in the backfield all game, and the ends did a great job of containing the offense. Mike Davis was able to break off several long runs, but the defensive line overall had a great game.

Linebackers: B
Connor Shaw was able to rip off one long run and several resulting in a first down, but overall the linebackers did a great job of containing Shaw. Brent Brewer was used as a spy on many plays, which was effective against Shaw. A.J. Johnson had another good game, but again it was Sapp that had the best game of the linebackers. Overall, the linebackers lack lateral quickness, but even in a mismatch against a running quarterback they were able to turn in a solid performance for the win.

Secondary: B+
Cam Sutton is a stud and the best freshman corner in the SEC. Coleman is a liability in man to man, but other than the TD pass he gave up to Byrd, he turned in a solid performance. Sutton was able to hand Shaw his first interception of the year, and locked down his side of the field. The safeties had some bad angles on a couple key long plays for the Gamecocks, but did a good job in run support overall. Next year the secondary will continue to improve and the freshmen coming in for the 2014 class will improve the overall talent in this group.

Special Teams: A-
Is there a better feel good story this year than Michael Palardy? I really want to give the special teams an A overall, but Palardy did miss a 41 yard field goal, but he was able to flip the field several times with stellar punting. Palardy may not be an NFL kicker, but I would guess he will have his spot as an NF punter. The special teams coverage was great, and it was nice to see Alden Hill lay the wood on a return. Special teams has turned into a strength of the team this year, and it was great to see Palardy nail the game winner.

When did the injury occur? (I was at the game and stuck in traffic/driving home for four hours) I know Vandy came back from a pretty good deficit...

With less than 6 min to go in the 2nd Qtr ACS was sacked by Jenkins. It would be the last play of ACS career. The score was 17-14 UGA. Murray would take it in for one more TD before halftime. 24-14

UGA got the ball 1st in the 2nd half and went 3 & out.
Vandy got a 1st down on 1st play then went 3 & out.
UGA went down the field to Vandy's 5 yd line and kicked a FG. 27-14
Vandy moved the ball to the UGA 42 and threw an interception.
UGA went 3 & out.
Vandy went 3 & out, punted from their own 19 and UGA fumbled the punt back to Vandy at the UGA 36. End of 3rd qtr.
On 4th and 4 for Vandy UGA got a 15 yd personal foul penalty to the UGA 15. Six plays later they scored a TD.
UGA went 3 & out.
Vandy went down the field and kicked a FG.
UGA went 3 & out, fumbled the punt snap and gave the ball back to Vandy on their own 13 yard line.
Vandy ran the ball in on one play for a TD and the lead.
Murray starts UGA down the field and on an 8 yd completion to Douglas, Douglas fumbles the ball to Vandy on the UGA 33 yd line.
Vandy goes 3 & out and misses a FG.
Murray tries again but with a hail mary that is intercepted. End of game.

UGA still has a talented roster but mentally they are a basket case and their coaching is suspect. There is a reason they can't ever win championships with their talent. They don't play championship football. jmo.

Not to nitpick but it was a 46-47 yarder I'm pretty sure

A few pics from yesterday. The one with Lane is pretty cool and gotta love the one with Butch and Palardy.

My bad. I was being real sarcastic. You are in a great mood after a great win. Carry on and Go Vols!

P.S. How was the talent in the Grove?

Lol.

Always good.

It was hilarious to see a group of LSU fans carrying around a sign of the TexAgs girl's face.

Anyone see a little Pat in Butch? Not saying as good as one of the best coaches of all time but more that he and he pushes his players for greatness and they love him. Similar to Pat.

Hope the results are similar

If anyone knows Marlon Walls, tell him thank you from Volnation. Hated that pic of him tears after GA. Guy is a true VFL who played great yesterday.

The defense holding Shaw in check on the ground for the most part and only 7-21 passing with just one big play was pretty impressive, imo. Shaw was playing as good as any qb in the sec coming into Neyland.

The dline looks like a completely different group from last year. They got constant pressure on Shaw and other than a few long runs by Davis they pretty much stuffed the run too. Not sure if it's just them being mostly seniors or Coach Strip or what. Probably a combination but they played really well yesterday and seem to be getting better every game. Not saying the rest of the D isn't playing well but it's nice to see the dline making a big difference in most of their last year here.
