Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

One thing I noticed was that even with Clowney making some big plays in the running game, I don't remember him doing a whole lot in straight up pass protection. I haven't gone back and re-watched it yet, but I feel like Tiny and James did a really good job containing him on pass rushes.

Yeah tiny manned up and admitted as much post game. He said that while he made some plays in the run game, he thought he did well in pass pro, which is true. The one sack I remember was against our left guard.

You're not bright. That lane if healthy, would have been the guy and would have went off as well. Player injury does not negate that two backs spelling each other with diff skill sets is beneficial

Neal has been most impressive when he was THE featured back. His best 2 games were when that was the case.

You debating the USA and Georgia games weren't his most impressive games??

Other games were played against poor defenses where he shared Carries but wasn't as impressive. So the level of defense angle doesn't fly

Yep, which was either an injured Bullard or Stone playing slightly out of position.

Lane had a big day undoubtedly and Neal had some nice carries including a giant run in SC territory up the middle in the 2nd TD drive in the 2nd quarter.

Cam's pick saved that third quarter from getting out of hand. If they score 21 in the third quarter we're done.

I'm really glad we got that win. The next 3 games are going to be just as hard as the last 4, minus South Alabama. Hope these guys continue to believe they can win even if we suffer some tough losses.

Cam was good. I saw his first bad play yest tho, he got burned once on a great juke by Davis I think it was. Nothing to be ashamed of tho. He is a beast. He lost that one battle but won the war.

There's also a great joy in knowing this is not a fluke win. Now on to this weak Bama team. Time to go to T-Town and bust them in the mouth. Good stylistic matchup for us. We've got the offense Saban hates to defend and they've got the type of offense we like to defend. We must stop Howard at TE in the passing game.

He did, granted that was a really tough play. That was about as open field as an attempted tackle could be, and Byrd had a 10 yard cushion when he caught the ball. (Pretty sure we're talking about the same play, and it was actually Byrd who caught it.)

We're gonna give them all they want. I'm looking forward to this one.

You already conceded lane was playing thru an injury so no you're argument doesn't fly, otherwise lane would have sucked against the much better sc defense. So the argument of lane who has had fewer carries against inferior defenses whilst injured, yet performs very admirably against a good defense in crunch time does not fly. He was fresh enough to do so because lane had hoisted them halfway up that mountain. You can't say definitively that Neal wouldn't have had more yards in those games if lane had been able to spell him ... Keeping him fresher

I would argue that our running game would have been even better against UGA with both Lane and Neal. Obviously Neal's numbers are going to go up when he's not splitting carries, but that doesn't mean he's not benefited by getting a breather.

Word, can't remember if it was a run or a pass, just the juke moment is sticking out in my mind

That's the crux of his argument, which is weak. Agreed

Alabama will most likely not have their arguably best defensive player against UT

Per rotoworld...

Alabama junior S Vinnie Sunseri could be lost for the season with a knee injury sustained against Arkansas.

Sunseri will have an MRI on Sunday, and head coach Nick Saban said the injury "could be serious." Fellow junior safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix just returned form a suspension, but Sunseri is known for his ability to make sure the defense is aligned in the proper formation on the field. Some have even called him an extension of Saban during the game.

Just looked at the stats.

Neal had nearly as many carries yesterday as he did against USA and Georgia.

That certainly doesn't help my thoughts.

Lane seems to feed off Neal for sure. I just don't see the flip side

Neal is the primary and lane is the backup. If those roles were reversed the flip side would likely be more evident.

Not sure what lane as the primary would look like. Neal had passed that test with flying colors IMO

You're getting too hype about one game. Jameis is a RS freshman. Which is different.

Nah, not really. You either have big game experience or you don't. He passed with flying colors on the road against a top five team. No qb has gone their entire career undefeated and nobody is expecting him to do so. His trajectory is among the most promising in history however. No reason to get hurt over that. Unless you're a canes or gators fan

Someone just pointed that out on VQ.

After North's catch...

Ball at the 26

Lane for 5
Lane for 6
Lane for -1
Lane for 13

Lane's a boss.

I still wanted to spike on first down, after that 13 yard pick up. It would still leave 27 seconds to stuff it in, or at least center the ball. Nevermind. We won. South Carolina can be left to second guess this week.

Less big runs with Worley trying to convert 3rd and 2 rather than 3rd and 5 is what I suspect it would look like

Yeah, to pick the tiniest of nits, if it were me i would have used a down to center the ball, then spike it. Obviously worked out just fine though.

I think Neal has played very well, and if Lane is feeding off Neal this season, no issues. Next year we get some talented freshmen led by a tough running BATTLE tested senior.

Sets up great in my eyes.

Have you watched FSU play this year? That RS Frosh QB is tearing it up. FSU might be the only team in college football that could beat Bama. I don't believe LSU or Clemson could. Oregon could play them close, but I still think they would lose. As far as conferences, the PAC whatever number they are now isn't exactly a powerhouse this year, and neither is the SEC. A healthy gator team lost to Miami and a healthy UGA team lost to Clemson. No conference really has a sparkle this year.

The sad thing is, I think it's entirely likely Bama, Oregon, and FSU win out, leaving one team to get a final BCS screw.

probably Ohio St. too..don't see anybody beating them..that would be back to back undefeated seasons

Lane got hurt in the first half of USA game

Neal went off in the second half when he was THE guy.

Not sure how you can say he is better when sharing carries.

You're using USA for your exhibit A? And wasn't our offense abysmal the 2nd half of that game?
