'14 GA RB Treyvon Paulk (UT Signee 2/5/14)

If someone is grayshirting, they will be on campus and practicing with the team, but just paying their own way. Can't they get UT medical attention?

not the typical greyshirt situation. typically they just become a next year EE. so Paulk would join the team as part of the 2015 class as an early enrollee. Swafford was different. he wanted to join the team earlier, so he decided to walk on and pay his way

So what exactly does a grey shirt do? They can or can't receive UT medical attention? I thought Tino Thomas did.

agreed but do need a third RB to come in

I agree. I mean Lane is not the most durable either. I'm not worried about Hurd. I think his shoulder issues are history after this surgery/rehab. I hope something works out with Paulk just because I consider him a VFL but we probably do need someone else available to contribute next year otherwise Hurd is going to lead the nation in rushing as a freshman and probably win the damn Heisman. While I think he has admirable character I really don't want to chance any of our players going all Johnny Football on us. :)

Let's see. Next year we will have Lane, Hurd, and Paulk who is out for a while. I say get one more back if you can.

That was a unique situation. Tino was actually enrolled over the summer in 2011, so he could use Tennessee training facilities. Once he was injured, he withdrew prior to the fall semester and took a grayshirt. In the NCAA bylaws, it says that the summer does not count so that was legit. It seems like a very bizarre stipulation.

Oh ok, thx! So a grey shirt really means nothing. Paulk would be free to go anywhere he wanted until December with no UT medical help.

Unless it comes down to us not having room for a good player, I don't want him to gray shirt. I think his rehab would go a lot better in Knoxville in our facilities. Not to mention, he would have a lot better understanding of our playbook and schemes if he was at practice

I don't see him as a grey shirt. Too good of a player. Evan Berry will be the 3rd back in this class IMO. Unless we get Scott then that would be sweet.

Paulk most likely won't be a 100% this time next season. If he is willing to greyshirt then that is probably the best for both parties.

We can proceed with getting another back that can immediately contribute in 2014. We also won't have 3 backs in one class. Paulk would basically be a 2015 commit.

Paulk would greyshirt in 2014 and still have his redshirt for later if need be. He would not be at the mercy of the NCAA when petitioning for a sixth year of eligibility if it came down to it at a later date. 2014 will most likely be a wash for him just like 2013. I would present the scenario(s) and let he and his family choose what is best for him.

That means he'd have to pay his own out of state tuition and rehab costs ? I don't see that happening.
