True story. My father has had a beard since 1972. He keeps it trimmed, but has never shaved it off. I was 1 when he grew it out. I have only seen pictures of him clean shaven.

I usually keep mine trimmed with my clippers. I hardly ever clean shave. I'm too hot natured for a fill beard.
