The obvious question from fans is the quarterback situation. Jones said on Wednesday night's Volcalls that it would be a game-time decision based on warmups, and while it's not been a four-man battle royale this week, it was prompted a very real push from Nathan Peterman on Justin Worley. There is a feeling that Peterman has made some significant strides and his commitment to improving his impressed his coaches. Jones noted multiple times this week that Peterman had been the first player in the film room, and Peterman's work with the first-team offense increased throughout the week. He and Worley were the only signal-callers to get first-team reps of note mid- to late-week, and Peterman certainly had done nothing to make the competition mere window-dressing. Returning home to his native state, Peterman could be poised for his most extensive work by far.
The two freshmen quarterbacks are improving, but there's not a feeling that one of them is getting ready to take over or even play at Florida. They got more reps early in the week, but as the practice week has progressed they have not taken as many reps as Worley or Peterman.
Defensively, freshman Corey Vereen is expected to see his first college action this weekend. Vereen has attacked his rehab from knee surgery. He hasn't had any setbacks and has pushed right through the rehab timetable. How ready to play is Vereen? There's talk about Vereen "dominating" both a starting offensive lineman and a top reserve during drills on Tuesday, which coaches saw with virtually no doubt Vereen could be ready this weekend.
There's been scuttle about Justin Coleman as well. Coleman was banged up last week at Oregon and exited the locker room with a bit of a limp. That hasn't gone anywhere this week, but the junior cornerback Coleman has logged extensive time in the training room, will travel and is expected to start. Obviously it will be a situation coaches closely monitor and if Coleman must come out, look for Malik Foreman and Reggie Juin to be first players called. Elsewhere, don't be surprised if walk-on turned consistent constributor Devaun Swafford gets the start for the Vols in nickel sets. Swafford continues to improve and be a special teams contributor whose upside is something coaches want to continue to foster.
Yeah, but it also shows the dire straits that our roster is in...a WALK-ON TRUE Freshman will get the start in our 1st SEC game...not a good thing IMO.

As he adjusts his dolphins visor....
Pig won't be 100% but he'll likely play some this weekend. J. Johnson likely won't play, he's been in a walking boot from a twisted ankle. Cody Blanc will play some in the slot again. per VQ
Ron is that volquest quote one of those Hubbs ways of saying something is going to happen without saying something is going to happen?
My prediction is JW gets the nod with plans for Nate to get series 2 or 3. Unless by some miracle JW has us up 14-0 going into the 3rd series. I said miracle folks. On the QB situation? Yeah, I think so. Sounds like Peterman might be getting the start and if not he'll likely get in the game much sooner than 4th quarter garbage time. If Worley starts he likely has a short leash or maybe Butch lets them share time, a two QB system. I'm hoping someone other than Worley starts and if that's Peterman, fine with me.

Shake it up, his ability to just even actually keep the ball on the read option makes him a better start IMO. That helps our run game out a lot.
