it's been going on that long?

Hobo, if I wouldn't have left my family and local friends in Memphis at 18, I really don't think things would've worked out too well. Misery loves company and when people hold others back, which happens in many families and communities, it's nobody's fault except the person that allows it to happen to them. My brother is still in the spiral of funk that I left behind 20+ years ago.
This is very true. And sadly, deep down some family members hate to see others succeed.

Absolutely. Spite, hate, envy...are all rampant. That family member is also usually the one that can never get a break and its always somebody else's fault, while spiting the one doing fine and using no excuses.

VT, I'll give you the same advice I gave you 2-3 years ago. Get the **** away from your family. Time is not your friend. If you don't make a move, in 5 years you'll wake up one morning and realize you're repeating history. Fortune favors the bold. See a doc and get your anxiety/depression under control. Enroll in a school that has housing. Break the cycle.

It's not as simple as "just leave". If I leave I'll have to take my truck, that leaves Dad unable to make it to Granny's to take care of her 3x a week, no way to get my sister to school, no transportation for emergencies, etc. School wise, I decided on Ut-Martin but I doubt my truck would even make it down there at this point since Dad apparently doesn't know how to take care of a vehicle. (knocking and rattling, paint peeling off, no new oil or tune up, etc.) I also obviously don't have any money to fix the truck anyway. I'll figure out something eventually, just have to see what happens.

Apply to school and use student loans. It's not ideal but if your dedicated enough to learn Jap then you finish. Do it ! :hi:

Knowing what little I know about your family's financial situation, you won't need a single dime for school. You don't even need wheels at Martin. Everything you'll need is within walking/bike distance from campus. Let your Dad keep the freaking truck. Take a bus to Martin. Better yet, if you'll enroll, I'll come and pick you up and take you to Martin. We'll load-down Mama Modbock's van to the axles. Doing nothing (sitting in that house having a pity party) isn't going to change your life, kid.
