The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Rain has race under red flag: After starting 90 minutes late, the GEICO 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway was red flagged at 4:45pm/et on lap 109. Rain is expected to last until about 7:00pm/et before moving back out. It will probably take close to 2 hours to dry the track. The halfway point is lap 134. Chicagoland has lights and NASCAR expects to be able to finish the race tonight. ESPN2 will have TV coverage when the race goes back to green.

NASCAR really effed up Jimmie Johnson. That NASCAR official needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and think about what he might have denied the sport, and the FANS. Which is a really good shot at a 48 win. I know he has to feel terrible.

I'm just saying. If Jimmie does not win this there might be a lot of unruly and angry fans.

Then they are retarded. If it was on the last lap or near the end of the race then sure. But with as much race as there is left it'd be ridiclous to get angry. I'd blame JJ for not being good enough for not getting back to the front.

I was being somewhat sarcastic on both posts btw. Probably a bit hard to tell with my undying love of all things HMS.

So has the race been postponed until tomorrow or are they going to try and finish tonight? I can't find any info on NASCAR's god-awful website.

I heard they were just going to call it and declare Hendrick Motorsports the Winston Cup Champion!

I also hear this conflicting report:

After starting 90 minutes late, the GEICO 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway was red flagged at 4:45pm/et on lap 109. The halfway point is lap 134. Jet dryers got on track at just before 7:00pm/et, after the rain slowed, but with cooler temps and damp conditions, drying is going slowly.
As of 8:15pm/et, the track estimates it will take until 10:00pm/et to finish drying the track. NASCAR is hoping to resume the race about that time.
ESPN2 will have TV coverage if the race goes back to green.
If the race is postponed, it will likely start at 12:00pm/et tomorrow.

How are folks managing NASCAR and NFL? It's gonna be tough. Titans look like they may be worth a damn so I am going to have to just run the race on ESPN 3 whenever possible.

I hope these dudes went and got the white visors:

I skip races once football starts and just catch the results/highlights.
