So I'm here watching this game over and a few notes:

-Defense is coached extremely well up front and on the back end

-Secondary is taking Willie Martinez's lead and making plays.

-Jordan Williams is coming into his own early on. He's over matching lower competition which is a good sign.

-Cam Sutton will be a STAR at CB. His instincts are great and he's showing why he was No.3 on Florida's CB board. Glad to see him in Orange. :)

-AJ Johnson is one of the worst MLBs we've had. He's extremely overrated by our fanbase and if he doesn't change his style of play I'd like to see someone else there.

-Sapp looks like our best LB so far and is extremely active.

-Neal looks to be satisfied with getting 5-8 yards. He's spinning when he could just stick his foot in the ground and run.

-O-line is blocking good but you can tell they weren't coached to be nasty their whole career.

-Young WRs are growing up fast and North will be a difference maker

-Worley= no comment

Prediction: We win the time of possession battle with Oregon.

That would be bad news for us IMO. It would mean they have huge plays. We want them to have to drive the ball

Case in point yesterday Virginia won that battle 39 to 21.

But many disturbing details about the alleged crimes — including what is described as a racially charged video and an allegation that Vanderbilt coach James Franklin told a player to delete footage of the incident, which he strongly denies — have not been reported until now

If Franklin was involved like this, then it puts him right up there with that freak from Penn State, who is in prison now. He is a good coach, but this allegation (if true) is not just someone cooking BBQ with some recruits...

THIS..... finally someone else see it. If everybody played smashmouth power football he would be great but they dont. He made some nice plays in the first quarter but after that it was all down hill. His speed is exposed on every passing play. IDK what they can do and IMO he plays hard and I hope for him that he can get it turned around but i just dont see it happening.

He might make a pretty good DE?

Fyp.

Sorry. I know he deserves a lot of credit, but he is more hype man than Xs and Os.

Uh no, he's sound fundamentally. What he's done at Vandy isn't luck. It's fine if you wanna be a homer, it is. But there has been an EXTREME improvement in the level of play at Vandy due to him. As well as recruiting. Keep in mind....this is Vandy. I'm not sure how you can say he wouldn't shine at a bigger school.

I think some of you have trouble differentiating between a grade A douche bag and a bad football coach. Nick Saban is a major douche bag. He's also the best coach since Tom Osborne. James Franklin could be a spokeswomen for Summers Eve, but he's a damn good football coach. Major, major jerk, but good coach.

I agree BB. A few more notes after re-watching the game.

(1) We have not shown a lot of our offense. Butch and Bajakian talked about the use of screen passes extensively during the offseason and fall camp, but we have seen very few of them. With that said, I like our offense and there seem to be WRs open if we can get the ball to them.

(2) Worley needs to keep the ball on the read-option more. WKU didn't even send a defender to him and the end was crashing down each time. Even if Worley can only get 5 to 6 yards, he needs to take it. This offense will be really good when Butch gets his QB in place.

(3) Our kickoff coverage unit is not very good and looks to be slow and unathletic. Oregon is the type of opponent that likely exposes this.

(4) Our defense plays with confidence, which is refreshing.

(5) Oregon is a really bad matchup for most teams in the country, including us. The speed out of the backfield will give us considerable trouble. We lack speed at LB.

(6) Safety play has been impressive. Seems like we're making good reads, taking the right angles, and making the tackle this year.

I disagree with #5 to an extent. Sapp and brewer in the nickel packages would give us a solid amout of speed. Add in a rotation of Maggit and JRM and you can maintain that speed from the nickel.

I know you didn't say this OCI but in addressing it here. AJ Johnson is in no way the worst linebacker. Is he at a disadvantage to spread offenses? Yes. But he works hard, has tremendous talent and is an NFL prospect. He'll matchup well against Florida and Alabama if the secondary can hold up.

1. 7 turnovers that`s playing winning defense.
2. WKU out played us in the second quarter.
3. CBJ showed why he is a winning coach we came out in the second half and took the game back and never let WKU off the mat.
4. We have the talent to win 5-6 games.
5. The question has always been weather or not CBJ and staff are good enough to get us to 7-8 wins after two games leaning towards yes.
6. What I`m looking for against Oregon is no matter what the score we don`t quit.

Agree - overall very impressed by the secondary so far. Especially when you consider that true freshmen and current/former walk-ons are playing significant minutes for that unit.

-Jordan Williams is coming into his own early on. He's over matching lower competition which is a good sign.

-Cam Sutton will be a STAR at CB. His instincts are great and he's showing why he was No.3 on Florida's CB board. Glad to see him in Orange. :)

AJ in coverage is a real problem. Any chance we start seeing more nickel packages with 4 starting DBs, bring in Toney/Swafford, and then Sapp and Brewer stay in at LB?

-Sapp looks like our best LB so far and is extremely active.

It was sad watching UGA after us cause their RBs are so much better. No dancing, shifty side steps in the backfield or as they're going through the hole - just running. Hope Lane starts seeing more of the minutes.

-O-line is blocking good but you can tell they weren't coached to be nasty their whole career.

-Young WRs are growing up fast and North will be a difference maker

I think coaching staff has decided he really is the best option at this point. If there was still a QB battle, they would've found a way to get someone else meaningful snaps in the second half. Maybe they've decided they'd rather deal with Worley's struggles and coach him up than the potential downsides of keeping this a QB battle (Worley develops less and loses confidence as he gets fewer snaps, lose a redshirt for the freshmen, etc.)

I agree BB. A few more notes after re-watching the game.

I was wondering yesterday why we're even using a read option on our running plays if Worley's just going to hand off every time. I'm hoping they've told him to hand off more for the early OOC games where he's not truly reading it at this point. Agree with you that the offense will be great when Butch gets his QB in there.

(3) Our kickoff coverage unit is not very good and looks to be slow and unathletic. Oregon is the type of opponent that likely exposes this.
Unfortunately, yep. If WKU can get them to the 30, Thomas will take at least 1 to the house. Hopefully Palardy will get it deep enough that he won't have the chance.

(4) Our defense plays with confidence, which is refreshing.

(5) Oregon is a really bad matchup for most teams in the country, including us. The speed out of the backfield will give us considerable trouble. We lack speed at LB.
Yeah, next week is gonna be ugly. Hoping we can at least slow them down and force them to have longer drives.

(6) Safety play has been impressive. Seems like we're making good reads, taking the right angles, and making the tackle this year.

He is def overrated by many on here. I got roasted last year for saying sapp was our best lb and that aj is just not day 1 nfl caliber. He can't cover and can't get off blocks. Not a good combo

Against Oregon I would just play nickel and take him off the field bc they will abuse him

He is not a very good pass rusher. Is what it is. He won't be any more than an avg sec backer. If we had recruited lb better he would be a situational type guy IMO. He shouldn't be a full time lb in modern football. Just can't cover well enough for it

@UTCoachJones: Already knocked out my tv show & graded our film from yesterday, almost time to move on to Oregon week! #ProductiveMorning #Team117

This man is a workhorse and this team will take his mentality and make us proud.

Anyone notice when Croom had to help North get his mouthpiece out of his face mask? Small things amuse me. Carry on, rednecks.
