.So I'm here watching this game over and a few notes:
-Defense is coached extremely well up front and on the back end
-Secondary is taking Willie Martinez's lead and making plays.
-Jordan Williams is coming into his own early on. He's over matching lower competition which is a good sign.
-Cam Sutton will be a STAR at CB. His instincts are great and he's showing why he was No.3 on Florida's CB board. Glad to see him in Orange.
-AJ Johnson is one of the worst MLBs we've had. He's extremely overrated by our fanbase and if he doesn't change his style of play I'd like to see someone else there. How does he change his STYLE of play? I thought his limitation was his speed.
-Sapp looks like our best LB so far and is extremely active.
-Neal looks to be satisfied with getting 5-8 yards. He's spinning when he could just stick his foot in the ground and run.
-O-line is blocking good but you can tell they weren't coached to be nasty their whole career.
-Young WRs are growing up fast and North will be a difference maker
-Worley= no comment Chicken?

THIS..... finally someone else see it. If everybody played smashmouth power football he would be great but they dont. He made some nice plays in the first quarter but after that it was all down hill. His speed is exposed on every passing play. IDK what they can do and IMO he plays hard and I hope for him that he can get it turned around but i just dont see it happening.
Fyp.
Sorry. I know he deserves a lot of credit, but he is more hype man than Xs and Os.

I agree BB. A few more notes after re-watching the game.
(1) We have not shown a lot of our offense. Butch and Bajakian talked about the use of screen passes extensively during the offseason and fall camp, but we have seen very few of them. With that said, I like our offense and there seem to be WRs open if we can get the ball to them.
(2) Worley needs to keep the ball on the read-option more. WKU didn't even send a defender to him and the end was crashing down each time. Even if Worley can only get 5 to 6 yards, he needs to take it. This offense will be really good when Butch gets his QB in place.
(3) Our kickoff coverage unit is not very good and looks to be slow and unathletic. Oregon is the type of opponent that likely exposes this.
(4) Our defense plays with confidence, which is refreshing.
(5) Oregon is a really bad matchup for most teams in the country, including us. The speed out of the backfield will give us considerable trouble. We lack speed at LB.
(6) Safety play has been impressive. Seems like we're making good reads, taking the right angles, and making the tackle this year.

Agree - overall very impressed by the secondary so far. Especially when you consider that true freshmen and current/former walk-ons are playing significant minutes for that unit.

AJ in coverage is a real problem. Any chance we start seeing more nickel packages with 4 starting DBs, bring in Toney/Swafford, and then Sapp and Brewer stay in at LB?

It was sad watching UGA after us cause their RBs are so much better. No dancing, shifty side steps in the backfield or as they're going through the hole - just running. Hope Lane starts seeing more of the minutes.
-O-line is blocking good but you can tell they weren't coached to be nasty their whole career.

I think coaching staff has decided he really is the best option at this point. If there was still a QB battle, they would've found a way to get someone else meaningful snaps in the second half. Maybe they've decided they'd rather deal with Worley's struggles and coach him up than the potential downsides of keeping this a QB battle (Worley develops less and loses confidence as he gets fewer snaps, lose a redshirt for the freshmen, etc.)

I was wondering yesterday why we're even using a read option on our running plays if Worley's just going to hand off every time. I'm hoping they've told him to hand off more for the early OOC games where he's not truly reading it at this point. Agree with you that the offense will be great when Butch gets his QB in there.

Unfortunately, yep. If WKU can get them to the 30, Thomas will take at least 1 to the house. Hopefully Palardy will get it deep enough that he won't have the chance.

Yeah, next week is gonna be ugly. Hoping we can at least slow them down and force them to have longer drives.
