What do you guys think about the zone read going forward?

Do you think we've seen the qb actually keeping the ball and running so little (not sure if they kept it any today) on purpose because CBJ just doesn't want to risk getting Worley or Peterman hurt?
Or
Do you think it has just been the correct read every time by the qb? (highly unlikely, imo)
Or
Is it because CBJ didn't want Oregon to have much film of our qb running on that play for some reason? (not sure what difference that would make)

What's the reason our QB's haven't been running the ball on the zone reads? Maybe it's not a big deal right now because our RBs are usually getting good yardage but it seems a little weird to me that as many times as we've ran it the qb has kept it so few times. What do you guys think?

I asked myself the same question today about the zone read. I assume the answer is that the qbs were directed not to read, but to hand it off every time and then run off as a decoy giving the impression we are using the zone read. I think it will be back next week hopefully when Oregon is expecting us to hand off every time.

to add to this, is it me or is the offense not as fast paced as we anticipated it being?

I really think we slowed it down today because our defense was having trouble. A subject I got hammered for bringing up earlier in the week

That makes since, there's alotta space in that defense right now that needs to be covered if were gonna pull off any upsets this year IMO. I didn't know if we were still trying not to show much or what's going on BC i figured we would be nonstop running plays

AP only has 99 yards total offense but they have held the ball almost 24 minutes.

Yes, I've thought about this as well and wondered the same thing bc sometimes they are on the ball and look ready to snap the next play and then the qb steps back and looks to the sideline. Seems they could go really fast if they wanted but are holding back on going 100% full speed for some reason.

I posted during the game that I saw maggit in the game. I am nearly certain it was walls(58) not 56. Anybody know for sure if maggit did or didn't play??

checked the participation report for you. He is not listed.

I thought that could be a reason but how much of a difference can Worley make if he's given the green light to run on the zone reads vs Oregon whether they've seen him run on tape or not? I just don't get it. I guess the most logical would be to keep either of them from getting injured, idk.

Thank goodness I don't get on here during games. Lawd they some chicken littles on here. I swear we'd be playing 4 QBs a game if some of y'all were coaching.

It just dawned on me that wku's qb threw more td's to UT players today than Worley did lol.

Wouldn't it be something if Worley came out next week and ran for about 100yds and a couple td's and was like 25-30 passing for 300+ and at least 3 more td's and no int's leading us to a monumental upset. Then Butch and Worley get interviewed right after the game on the field and they both point to the camera laughing and saying haha we were just sandbagging the first two weeks. Vols, Butch!! OK, ok, let me stop dreaming right there lol.

I like your imagination. If that happened I would not survive 4 quarters. I would have a stroke from excitement.

As has been observed: Worley's day is perceived much differently had Croom reeled in that would be TD heave.

Speaking of croom has he been productive enough in areas other than receptions to stay in his current role???

From what I have seen I expect to see his role diminish if he doesn't pick up his game.

I believe he is the best option for what we are trying to do at this point in the season.

Fair enough.

I am willing to see one more game. If we see the constant inaccuracy again at Oregon I am ready for a change. It's his last chance dance IMO

I don't think there's any denying Worley hasn't looked all that great and has struggled more often than he's looked good. All I was asking was how much longer can you go on with a qb that has had plenty of opportunities but isn't getting the job done before you need to yank him.
