Agreed, but you have to temper you expectations in the first game of the season for freshmen. Things to remember:

1) Our offense was very vanilla.

2) Timing will get better with the receivers.

3) Drops are common with first game jitters.

According to ESPN, former Vols receiver Robert Meachem is on the verge of signing with the Saints. This would reunite him with Drew Brees

Never said they weren't. Doesn't excuse dropping the ones that hit you in the hands. I have confidence it will be fixed, I am just opposed to the idea that we should expect or accept dropped passes regularly.

I am not excusing them entirely. I am just saying it is their first real game in from of 100k. They are use to much smaller games and are really excited for their first action. There job is to catch the ball. Worley's is to throw it. I don't remember seeing the Croom play (stream was really blurry) but Justin Worley underthrowing passes didn't help North. He still has to make the catch however. Just saying we will have to give them time. This is why it sucks starting freshmen...

Never the wrong time to post this pic, but especially applicable this week.

That's funny right there. Minus the smile, that's what the majority of wku's players will look like leaving Neyland Saturday after they play a real sec team.

I'm not worried about wku and Petrino like a good bit of Vol fans seem to be. Butch will have 117 focused and prepared. He has been the coach of big underdogs going on the road plenty of times. He knows very well how big of a game this is for wku and their program. Yeah, they've got some good players and a good coach but we've got better players and a coach just as good, if not better, imo, playing in front of 100,000 Big Orange fans. I got UT covering the 13.5 all day long.

I believe Coach Jones said that some of the underthrows were caused by receivers running incorrect routes. Not sure about which ones specifically.

I think you are right. Worley also said he's used to throwing to the receivers in practice. He said they may be more tired during a long practice than they are in a game. Meaning, North was running routes faster than Worley realized.

Who knows really, but it's not unexpected given we're breaking in a new QB and new WRs.

My baseline expectation is that we'll see this tighten up over the next few weeks. Of course, those results will be skewed by the fact that we will be playing some elite secondaries during that stretch (Oregon, Florida).

Fun times.

:)

That block Jason layed during Raijion's touchdown run Saturday night proved my point emphatically.

Wish APSU hadn't had pass interference on him Saturday, otherwise he would have had his first touchdown. Also, hope we start throwing the ball around a little more so he can get some touches. Croom is going to be a star!

I'm excited for Croom and all of our receivers. We've got a lot talent at that position, just need more reps and game experience.

If Lane would've turned outside on one of his carries in the first quarter he would've had a long td like Neal did bc Croom had the edge set again. Lane just missed it and cut inside for a 5yd gain.

so who was the guy setting up a tailgate with recruits? How brain dead can someone be?

Used to be poster on VN under sabanochio. No longer here---at least under that name. Suspected that he lurks here still, and possibly even posts under a different screen name.

What ever happened? Was he just contacting recruits or something as if he was a journalist?

I watched the first half again last night and watched every throw by Worley. The only throws where he was completely accurate were 10yds or less. Two quick hitches to North, one to J Smith on a rollout(this one was right at about 10yds), a screen to Neal, and the short TD to Downs.

He was behind North three times and all three would've been TD's if he hit him in stride. J Carter and Pig caught one where they both had to fall to the ground to do so instead of getting yac. The TD pass to Pig was high. Devrin also had to go up high to catch the floater for the TD.

His incompletions were an overthrow on a fade to J Carter in the end zone (which may have been on purpose), the one to Croom where there was pass interference in the end zone(which I guess didn't count as a pass attempt), and the long one to North that was way short. The one to Croom looked like it might have been too far in front of him but not sure if the db slowed Croom bc of the PI.

The bad accuracy could've been bc of WR's not running precise routes or timing issues, I don't know. That's just what I saw. Regardless, it was Worley's first game as the starter with this team. I really don't expect accuracy to be as big of an issue going forward as he gets more and more practice with these WR's and gets more comfortable. We'll see.

I think that was one of his issues, if I remember correctly. He was acting like he worked for a recruiting service and talking to the recruits.

His most infamous misstep was "the letter".
He wrote Jesse Scroggins a letter imploring him to come to UT and how he would be loved here be amazing and so on.

Nothing Wierd or awkward at all
