Recruiting rankings thread

They do it so that a team with 30 3 stars won't have more points than a temam with 20 4 stars. Makes some sense IMO.

In all reality, only the best 20 players in any class have a chance to contribute. Identifying exactly who those 20 guys are, however, is a bit of a chore, but I would say that on the average, unless your coach is just some kind of talent evaluating genius who lands every single diamond in the rough there is (and ddiapos wasn't that guy) you would be happier with the smaller class of higher rated guys.

But that's the thing - we don't know who the top 20 are. A team with the same class, but with five extra recruits has more opportunities to produce star players. Never hurts to have extra lotto tickets lying around.

Vandy has been doing better in recruiting lately, and we all know that. Generally still not as good a classes as us and the rest of the upper echelon in the SEC, but they have certainly had an upward trend. Has anyone else taken note of the fact that UK has 7 4* recruits this year?

Anyone concerned that both Vandy and UK are in the top 10 right now? Vandy getting into the top 20-25 in recent years is one thing, but both close usually patsy rivals in the top 10 with multiple 4* recruits!? I don't know. There's an ebb/flow to everything. Maybe recruits will stop coming to them in the future when they realized that the promise of forging a new dynasty is silly, and Vandy and UK will forever be 4'ish loss teams, and never compete for championships, and they'll go back to pulling mostly 3*, but the surge certainly doesn't help our current rebuilding efforts.

Trying to make a subjective ratings system into objective ranking is futile effort but it's the best we got.

But I'd take #1 in positive vibes any time!

Vandy is not in the top 10.
Since when are either of those teams good enough to be 4 loss teams? Last year was Vandy's best year and they had 5 losses.

Vandy had 4 losses last year. (unless Wiki is incorrect)

I said "no better than". Ie, in recruiting, you can talk about rebuilding something new and special, and starting a Vandy renaissance in the SEC, yada yada, but my point was that while they seem to be pulling more upper tier recruits than they used to, I hope this flow will be met by an ebb, when recruits stop buying the hype, and start looking at more of the realization that Vandy and UK don't have the facilities or the football-type infracstructure that schools like Bama, UF, UGa, UT, LSU, etc have in the SEC to be "any better than" 4-5 win teams. I guess that was my point/discussion point.

Vandy is 22 on Rivals and 24 on 247...

Yo, thanks for the correction. You're right. I think I was maybe just remembering an earlier ranking or maybe a ranking from the end or part of last year or something, and didn't bother to check the updated. Anyway, they are listed as having five 4* iirc, but should be noted that oddly, one of those is Carta-Samuels, who is playing this year, so wouldn't really count in the '14 recruiting class, and not sure why he's listed in that class.

He has a brother who plays out in Cali. 2 different people.

Ah, didn't pay mind to the first name. Good call. Well, I'm on a roll today for looking like I have a bad memory and not paying attn to details, so I'll probably just stop. Ha.

Looks like the current Carta-Samuels isn't listed in any of the recruiting classes then.

The one that is currently playing at Vandy, transferred to Vandy from Wyoming.

Stars never truly carry over to college, but recruiting higher ranked players gives your team a better chance to win. Eric Fisher was the number 1 pick this year in the NFL draft, 2* out of high school.

Wait till Eric Berry meets you over the middle.
