Kentucky students to first lady: food 'tastes like vomit' | The Daily Caller

Ri-goll-dang-diculous that the Federal government dictates what goes into school lunches across the country. How in the heck did we get to this point?

Kind of reminds me of most other things the Obama's decide to get involved in.

It really is amazing that we've gotten to this point. As for the reason, I would say it's a combination of complacency, laziness, and ignorance. I was going to estimate percentages by group, but then I mentally pictured a Venn diagram, and there was a lot of overlap.

Meh. Sounds like me when I was a kid:

Other gripes involved the new bread, which students don’t want to eat because it’s brown wheat bread, and the new milk, which is skim or one percent fat, not two percent or whole. The cafeteria’s chocolate- and strawberry-flavored milk offerings are now nonfat.

Still don't see why the fed govt is in school lunches though.

If you are against anything the Obama's bring to the table (no pun intended) you're considered a racist so we just go along with it to see if it works first. We do have a right to reject any & all ideas that completely stink to high heaven.

Here's the thing - the childhood obesity problem is not the result of school lunches. Back when school lunches were really bad for you we didn't have the problem. Changing lunches may help alleviate some of the symptoms of a problem with a different set of root causes but the obesity problem didn't result from school lunches.

Seriously school lunches are the least of our concerns when it comes to kids being fat. I ate a chicken sandwich with mayo, orange soda, and a twix every day for four years and I was still a 4 year left wing/striker starter on the soccer team. Heck I don't think I ever broke 160 pounds at 6'.

When I went to school in South Dakota everything we ate came out of a can. Spaghetti and tomato sauce? From a can..scooped onto the tray with an ice cream scooper..

So stricter guidelines to food stamp spending instead of a first of the month grocery shopping spree?

It's really simple. Video games. How many kids do you know that DONT play video games? It's a babysitting tool nowadays. A coworker of mine has a 12 grader who has not passed algebra yet (thanks no child left behind). He is also morbidly obese. What are his hobbies? PS3/Computer/Xbox. That. Is. It. No friends, no drivers license, nothing but video games. And the parents scratch their heads as to why he can't pass any classes and why he is so fat.

Ate 5 -6 BIG meals a day throughout HS and college. Had a 4.5% body fat when I got out of college at 148. I burned EVERYTHING I ate.

What's worse is now the kids are going to eat more later in the day. That's a hard habit to break.

And limiting carbs on children is insanely stupid.

Back before we had a county dietician the head cook at the school decided the menu and purchased the food. All the cooks were old country girls and our food was great, not many fat kids either.

I think you're lost

He's something.

It's the steroids in the chicken. I promise. Look no further than your local high school at the young girls.

They didn't make them like that when I was in school. (Well not many)
