"Butch said he'll look at all the film with the offensive staff and decide on a starter this weekend. Along those same lines he indicated that they'll be paring the reps down in practice with the first team guy getting most of the work and whoever ends up second getting most of what's left over.

On tomorrow's mock game Jones stated that they'd be looking at a wide array of situations, again focusing on his team's 'football IQ.'

Once again, today's practice featured a ton of special teams work and Jones stressed after practice that would be a crucial area this fall given what he called his team's narrow margin for error."

Passing Game, Passing Grade: I’ll go ahead and say it…Today was the best the passing game has looked all season in drills. This team has struggled to complete passes against air all pre-season, but today they finally looked like they are putting things together in that department. During drills the QBs and WRs were 44/50 for an 88% completion rate that included some great snags by Drae Bowles, Jason Croom, and Marquez North. I know it was only drill-work, but these are timing routes that take time to perfect. It has taken longer than the coaches wanted, but the passing game seems to have taken a big step in the last week. And while inexperienced, this seems to be a very deep group of receivers with many guys that will contribute heavily all season.
*Note* – Paul Harris was back out with his teammates today in a green jersey for the first time in a few weeks and looked very good as he recovers from turf-toe.

Jordan Williams now starting at DE. Said he's a real quick off the edge and is starting to use his hands well.

Devrin and Pig have made good strides.

I'm confident the passing game will be just fine. Over a week before AP, a great test VS WKU, and then it all gets very real. Over 3 weeks is plenty of time to touch up on the little things. We will be good to go at OR.

If the passing game becomes better and we avoid big injuries, our ceiling may be higher than 6 wins.

I gotta say thats not a bad starting O lineup.

during the pre-practice walk-through session, the media may have gotten a brief look at the starting offense for the Austin Peay game next week. Marquez North, Pig Howard and Jason Croom got the start at wide-receiver with Brendon Downs joining them at the tight-end position. Justin Worley was the quarterback and Rajion Neal got the start in the backfield. Marlin Lane has been the expected starter lately, but today was seen in a knee brace and green jersey. The injury is not thought to be serious, just a precautionary measure as the team heads into game-week. The offensive line consisted of Richardson, James, Bullard, Stone and Fulton.

Don't know what thread or if its been asked but does anybody know anything about this Xavier Hawkins kid. Is he D1 material or getting any looks?

Best things to come out of practice lately are

1. Jordan Williams is becoming that presence off the edge we've desperately needed

2. The passing game is starting to take shape
