I keep up with both, yes.
So would it be unfair to say that a lot of people who carry, live in a constant state of fear and worry? I have experience with firearms and I'm not the least bit uncomfortable with them, I just don't feel the need to carry one all the time. Obviously, that's not for everyone either.Ok, the only reason I ask is often times people who share your opinion don't. I see on the local news almost nightly, at the very least weekly where someone was assaulted, robbed whatever and I wonder would that individual have been a victim if they were carrying a firearm.
I am an NRA member and when I get my monthly magazine the first thing I read is the Armed Citizen section. It is stories where every day citizens have defended themselves. Here's a link if you want to check out some of the stories.

That said, its not for everyone. If you don't feel comfortable carrying a firearm then don't. My wife falls in that category. I pray she never regrets it.
What if those bored teenagers are standing behind you in a line and shoot you in the back? Or what if they take your gun and shoot you with it?

As for the NRA stuff, don't you think that in a way, that's propaganda?
I do have insurance out of fear, but that's a fear of not having enough money to cover something and it doesn't potentially put my life or someone elses life in danger by having it.Ive heard that question alot too. Its simply a precautionary measure. Do you have insurance out of fear? You have insurance on your home and car in case something happens and you need it. People spend alot of money on insurance and never need it. I carry a firearm for the same reason and I hope I never need it.
As far as the NRA and propaganda. Yes, there is some of that but the stories I mentioned are not. They are real. They printed one from East Nashville where an elderly lady defended herself that I saw on the news. The NRA is the only organization fighting for our gun rights and without them I don't think we would have many gun rights left.
I can understand that. I'm not against owning or carrying, to each their own. I just don't understand the psychology of worrying about dangerous people or things hurting your family, yet you own those dangerous things that could hurt them. Don't you worry about gun accidents? Someone breaking in, finding your gun and using it on you and your family (never say never)? I mean, it goes both ways right? The world is a crazy place. I'm watching out for my family.

I have no doubt that carrying a gun has saved a few lives. At the same time, for every feel good story you show me, I can show you a tragic one where someone died accidentally because of a gun.

I guess you can word it that way. Carelessness can lead to an accident. When a kid finds his Dad's gun and shoots his brother, that's an accident. Yes, the Dad was careless in leaving it out, but the kid doesn't mean to shoot his brother. There are no gun "accidents" there are only purposefully and carelessness.

Not necessarily. There are thousands of scenarios for and against. It's understandable for people to get defensive and start going to well about guns don't kill people etc etc.. I was curious about the psychology of it. I personally don't feel the need to have more than strong doors, good locks and a dogwood walking stick in the corner to defend myself if need be. I just think it's interesting how some people feel the need to have an arsenal, dogs, alarms, moats, and claymores in the yard.I dont really get this, if someone is breaking in to do you harm they would bring a weapon with them.
