Got to spend some time at the hospital this evening. Son had a febrile seizure and it was the scariest moment of my life. He checked out fine and is sleeping but I doubt we get much tonight. Amazing how things can change in an instant

What was the cause?

It's caused by a sudden spike in their fever (they think). He went to almost 104 in about an hour and a half. Evidently it's kind of common but nothing can prepare you for seeing something like that. Thankfully my wife was home too so together we had a functioning brain

Thanks. Neither of us had a clue but somehow did most of it right. The 911 guy was a big help

My son had one of those PJ. They are scary for sure. We were told too that it is caused by a spike in temp. Hope you and the wife can get a little sleep tonight. I know what it's like it's not fun at all.

thanks vader. I felt like a mindless blob of jelly but the emt said he was surprised at how composed we stayed.

was it just one? Wife is really freaked out it will happen again tonight. I'll probably end up sleeping on the couch in his room tonight just to make her feel better

Scary stuff PJ. My younger brother had "an episode" when he was 12 and I was 16. He took allergy shots, and one day he got paralyzed while we were watching TV after schoold and couldn't catch his breath. I have never seen a body look like that. His fingers and legs were like, I don't know, sticks sort of? I got a paper bag and had him breath in it, then called my mom. Took him to the allergist and they gave him a shot of adrenaline. He was fine after that but it scared the living hell out of me.

My point is, you know what to do. You just don't know that you know it yet. Hope you guys get some rest tonight.

for the record I could have gone my whole life without knowing what to do and would be just fine :p

if we can just get thru tonight and to the Dr in the morning I think we'll both feel better. Only 10hrs to go

He had two back to back but hasn't had one since and he was almost two when it happened. He will be four this December.

The doctor told us that since he had one he would be more likely to have them again but he said he couldn't say for sure if he would ever have another one. He said just the fact that he had one makes him more likely to have another. Knock on wood we haven't had one since then. The doctor also told us that now that he had one to make sure any time he got a fever to dress him down in nothing but underwear and give him tylenol to help with his fever. So we make sure now to do that and it seems to work for us.

PJ, hope your son is doing better and gets a great check-up from the doctor. Also hope you and your wife were able to get some rest.

1 week before my oldest son was headed to kindergarten he went in for a regular check-up, the doctor didn't like the way his skin looked and wanted him looked at by a specialist.

Worst call I have got, my wife in tears saying I needed to meet them at Children's, we were on the way to see a Oncologist.

Luckily he was diagnosed with TEC, a slow developing anemia. He had low hemoglobin levels, but otherwise was perfectly healthy.

I bet that was a tough phone call Gnome. When ever it involves kids it's never easy.

Speaking of kids, has anyone been watching the My Wish stuff on ESPN? That stuff gets me every time. I can't watch any of them without shedding a tear. Some of the kids have gone through so much.
