I should get shot for saying this but I think it's really possible they would like to have Riley as the starter but they don't completely trust him yet. He reportedly had some issues throwing interceptions at the beginning of camp and that has been described as catastrophic. He has an abundance of confidence, the strongest arm, can make all the throws on the field, and is very mobile. Reportedly they all know the offense so I think he has the edge but in the beginning he dug himself into a hole. Last year Cincy lost 3 games, all by a TD or less. Against Toledo they threw 2 interceptions, against Louisville 3 interceptions, and against Rutgers 2 interceptions. I think Riley just has to prove he has learned to take care of the football and until he does I think Nate may have just that much of an edge on him. Jmo, grasping at straws really, but based on everything I've heard and read to this point, I'd probably go with Worley or Nate to start but my first choice would be Riley when and if I ever truly felt like I could trust him to take care of the football. He may be the most promising atm but he may also carry the most risk. JMO.

I'm guessing after CBJ threatened to sit down with MzTerry and show her the film of Croom's botched play a lot of people got nervous and started playing harder.

Pulling the I'm gonna tell your momma card works like a charm. Butch "Gets it."

WTH?????

CBJ call Jay out using me? That's a joke right?

and ps:

Jay is wayyyyy harder on himself than i've ever had to be when it comes to football

I'm hearing CBJ did call Jay out..

I'm cracking up.

Bet he won't do whatever he did again. :eek:lol:

He breaks out this year and catches the game winner against ga.

Like a lot of our young receivers, I won't be surprised with a few struggles early this year for Croom. But I bet he's a household name by the end of this season.

James Franklin is pissed off about their ticket sales... lol

adding to the list of reasons hes giving himself to leave after this year.

Read that article and thought the same thing.

He's got to be realizing he's taken Vandy as far as they'll ever go, especially now that Tennessee has a competent head coach.

If he sticks around too long, the Vandy job may drag his career down as quickly as it elevated him.

You have to leave vandy when the getting is good. IMO he stayed 1 yr too long. Hopefully that's the case anyway

@DanWolken: RT @finebaum: If Alabama is going to three-peat, Saban better crack down. The Geno Smith issue, coupled with others, is a disturbing trend.

Pick the starter out of camp and stick with him.

Let him take his lumps, develop and grow.

Please no schaeffer/Ainge/Claussen type back n forth.

I disagree. I think that year specifically shows the benefit of giving multiple guys opportunities to prove themselves. After the first game Fulmer named Ainge the starter, but still used Schaeffer in spots because of his mobility. That worked to our advantage quite a bit that year. I seem to remember us making it to the SEC championship game (although we did have a pretty solid ground game). The only reason Clausen played was because of injuries. So it's not like using two quarterbacks automatically dooms us.

Seems like Worley is the least mobile of the QB's. I wouldn't be surprised if Dobbs gets opportunities to play regardless of who is named the starter. I didn't see the practice, but it sounds like he ran the read option pretty effectively. I don't see any reason to keep that kind of potential wrinkle in the offense on the sidelines all year. It may be our best chance to move the ball at times, especially with such inexperienced wide receivers.

Just a thought.

Erik Ainge keeps talking on his show about how bad of an attitude Devrin Young has. He's said it multiple times. Which seems weird to me. Everything I've ever seen about him made me think that he was obviously a team first kind of a guy. I never thought for a second that he wasn't all in with the Butch Jones hire.

I just haven't seen anybody else say this kind of thing except for Ainge. Did Devrin sleep with his wife or something? What's the deal? Anyone know?
