* Jones rode linebacker A.J. Johnson a bit today, calling him a “grabber,” who led the nation in tackles made five yards down field. (For the record, I don’t think that’s an actual stat.)

* Jones was also on nose guard Daniel McCullers. When Marvin Gaye‘s soul hit “Let’s Get It On” played over the loudspeakers, he said, “That’s your song, McCullers.”

* We learned an interesting team rule tidbit over the microphone today: “No bars in season.” So if you see a player at the club, they’re probably not supposed to be there. Don’t twitpic it.

Tennessee football practice: Notes from Sunday's session at Haslam Field | Evan's Eleven

I'm not a player on the team, but from the outside it sure looks like Butch knows the right buttons to push to make our best players want to prove something.

Punt team struggles brought more frustrations from Jones, which seemed to peak when he barked, “Darr, I’m about to send you home!” in the direction of punter Matt Darr.

That wouldn’t be the end of Darr drawing the attention of Jones, but before that, more execution problems got in the way.

“That’s blocked,” Jones shouted after a protection breakdown. “You assumed because you saw two return men that they weren’t coming after it!

“You want Austin Peay to tell you want what they’re doing?”

He went back after Darr later in the drill.

“You’re moving slow Darr!,” he yelled. “You must’ve had a heck of a night last night! They’re gonna re-name The Strip after you, Darr!

“Just remember the team rules, Darr,” Butch continued. “No bars in-season!”

I don't like the rule, but now that it's out there they must reinforce and the players know the deal.

.

Enforcing is the problem. Having a rule that will be broken by 100% of the 117 teams in the history of a program is dangerous. I sure hope he doesn't have a suspension as a consequence

I would bet there are ALOT of college athletes who do not spend their time hanging out in bars. If the coaches expect players to follow the rules, they have to enforce them. "No bars during the season". Sounds easy enough to follow IMO. Stay out of the bars and you avoid problems.

If you want a drink or two go to a "restaurant" instead of a "bar". Seems like a pretty easy way around the rule to me. Or just drink at someone's house.

You saw him breaking team rules that get you suspended? Please tell

I get your point.

Serious question.

Would this rule be broken on a championship team??

IMO it's broken on every championship team by multiple players many times and the enforcement of such a rule might cost a team just that.

Can see it now. CBJ sneaks into a restaurant where Darr is sitting at the bar having a drink. CBJ gets on the intercom, "Darr get away from the bar and find a booth"! :)

lol

Plenty of places to get a drink other than "bars". Butch is just pushing his team to think outside the box, be creative. :)

Why does it happen on most every other team? Because it is not a rule. If the coaches have made it a rule for this team, why is it expecting too much for the players to follow it or suffer the consequences? If it ends up costing us games, it's 100% on the player/s who broke the rule and NOT the coaches.

Dude. Do you nitpick everything? You need to be a lawyer or a sports agent or something. This gets a little ridiculous sometimes.

Again I hope suspension isn't a consequence. Penalties that hurt the entire team should be reserved for severe infractions. Following a hot little number to a bar is far from a severe infraction and should never hurt the entire program
