I don't perceive Moore to be one of the best in the SEC. We love him because he has been so vocal in recruiting and is clearly a team leader but certainly looked lost a lot last year, looked a step slow and looked a little lacking in tackling.

I'm sure I will be labeled as a hater or negative...heck I want Moore to be awesome...but I just don't see it and now it looks like he will be the 3rd safety in the rotation.

BMoore IS awesome. I don't know about playing but I liked it when he stepped up in our hour of need. I'm going to forget a lot but I don't think I'll ever forget that. :thumbsup:

Intense special teams work --- and a particularly challenging day for punter Matt Darr --- punctuated Tennessee's afternoon work Sunday on Haslam Field.

Just 15 hours after the Vols' open practice inside Neyland Stadium, they hit the field to enter an abbreviated week of work before game-week for the season opener Aug. 31 against Austin Peay begins in a week.

And first-year head coach Butch Jones was arguably even more demonstrative, more vocal than usual. Jones bellowed out "op-times" --- operational times for getting punts off --- to Darr and repeatedly implored the redshirt junior to get better, faster.

Jones also reminded players of various team rules, including 'no bars in season,' and told Dan McCullers that Sunday was a "hundred-thousand-dollar practice."

Rookie quarterback Joshua Dobbs became the latest newcomer to get his black helmet stripe removed, right on the heels of fellow freshman signal-caller Riley Ferguson.

Wearing green, non-contact jerseys were: Curt Maggitt, Brian Randolph, Pig Howard and Justin King. In the 'black hole' were: Jacques Smith, Dylan Wiesman, Paul Harris, Ryan Jenkins, Johnathon Johnson, Michael Williams and Alex Ellis. Junior left tackle Antonio 'Tiny' Richardson also worked on a rope drill in the 'hole' during a portion of practice.

In all seriousness I am not fond of rules that will certainly be broken and in the end enforcing them puts the staff in a very tough spot. Expecting a football to abstain from the college bar scene for an entire season isn't reality IMO. No bars 48hrs before games is much more realistic.

That's I why I quoted it. I get the same chills. It was just so weird how it happened. The stars were aligned. I hope we get some of that mojo for #117.

Couple of things from Jones...

On Wiesman, there doesn't appear major concerns over anything like an ACL. Jones hopes to know more in the morning.

They are resting Marlin Lane because of some bumps and bruises that he has. They are also being cautious with Neal. There is a big separation from Neal and Lane to those behind them. Pickett would be third team pushing for second team reps but he remains ineligible waiting on a second ruling from the NCAA on an appeal.

This team is trying to grind and for the most part Jones was pleased with the way they pushed through today, but again noted he needed more leadership and needed some guys to push through better.

Josh Dobbs did losing his stripe after last night's play. Jones said after watching the tape that his OL played pretty good particularly the first team in a response to his critic of them late last week. He also said that his defensive front didn't to a great job in their gaps particularly with pass rush allowing the qb's to escape.

@FootballTimeMag: Though we didn't get to see team portions, if you told me Peterman got the majority of first team reps today I wouldn't be surprised.

I gotcha but there's nothing wrong with him establishing a level of conduct from his players. Especially this first season. He's gained a level of respect from the older players and setting a standard that's trickling down to the younger ones. He didn't say they couldn't hang out with each other or at someones apartment or house. He specifically said bars and considering the history with the bar scene I get his point

All this goofy speculation on QBs today. The team did not wear pads and they focused on special teams for the most part.

I agree with this. You don't tell a kid he can't do something that he might've been waiting years to do. Football is a privilege, yes, but so is drinking, driving, voting, and going to college period. No coach should have the right to take any of that away. Limit it? Sure. But not take it out completely.

Matthews was giving his OPINION on what UT SHOULD do IF Maggitt wasn't going to be 100% this season. He was not stating as fact things that he was hearing, only giving his opinion.

I don't like the rule, but now that it's out there they must reinforce and the players know the deal.

If they're as poor as I was in school, a house party is the way to go anyway.
