Jones on 107.7... just a few things...
-Team is excited about smokey uniforms.
-Team is fired up for open practice Saturday. Wants a gameday atmosphere (ill be there by the way and so should you!).
-Jones really wants to see what Team117 is about.
-Our fans have been outstanding. We have a lot of momentum with our program.

What was one of the first things Butch told the team when he met them in the team meeting room when he first arrived at UT...

I remember 4 exact things (I'm sure there was more).

1. "We are going to have something called Tennessee Swagger." -Check

2. We are going to run the ball on every down. He was more or less joking but we will find out how much this Fall.

3. "My main goal is to push you and get the most effort out of you I can. Because at the end of the day, I don't want you walking up to me and saying... "Man coach, I wish you would have pushed me a little more." -Check

4. "We need to embrace change. Change can either be good or it can be bad. It's all about how you buy in." -Check

I'm way late to the party here, but the Smokey uniforms are legit. The white on white is my favorite. Butch and his design/marketing team are geniuses. I'm happy for the Seniors. They deserved this more than anybody. The past 3 years have been the worst in history at UT.

"For example, this week, the leadership group on the team was really challenged by head coach Butch Jones to set the tone for the team. Just after seven one morning, Jones walked into a meeting that was to start at 7:30. Jones found his entire team in their seats ready to go at 7:15 a.m. There are some within the program who really think over the course of the last week to 10 days that there has been a real culture change happening in the locker room with the team."

"Some more insight on the Erik Spoelstra visit: Just how genuine was the two-time Miami Heat NBA Champion coach about making this trip all about helping Jones & the Vols? Well, Spoelstra denied all camera access to his interactions with the team because he was adamant about the root reason for his presence; to help the Vols improve and not generate publicity. Spoelstra really soaked up the opportunity to bond with the Vols, and captured video of the Tennessee’s bull-in-the-ring drills on the field at Neyland Stadium during practice.

A common refrain from folks around the program on 'Coach Spo's' talks: His message was freaking phenomenal. Spoelstra told the Vols to focus on championship habits and the opportunity to be a part of something special, such as Tennessee football. He also referenced the opportunity to take the program back to relevance and noted it must be done, yes, step-by-step and brick-by-brick. Spoelstra also noted that players and teams build credibility with discipline and that doing things that they don't want to do sometimes can make the group better. Put in the work, go the extra mile, set an example.

Also, Spoelstra was very complimentary on Jones' coaching staff, really touting the group's energy, enthusiasm and way that they worked together. What Jones has accomplished in getting a variety of respected speakers before his team in eight-plus months really is nothing short of amazing."

On Alden Hill...

He's been ok. He was never going to push Neal or Lane if they were healthy and focused and both of those guys have had good fall camps. I think Hill and Pickett (if he gets eligible) are going to battle to be the third back. I could see Hill in some short yardage situations. Smith has put in work and earn some respect with Gillespie and has been given some more work to further eval him.

I live in Nashville, but I could barely tell name more than a few players for Vandy, don't even know what conference TSU plays in, and I'm pretty sure Austin Peay has a football team b/c they're on our schedule this year...should I have more insight into the VU, TSU, and Peay because I'm closer proximity to thier campuses?

Nothing wrong with having an opinion about WKU's level of talent be comparable to UT's, even if it is completely off base and asinine...IMO.

I appreciate your tolerance. However, since you know nothing about AP, VU and TSU (based upon your own statement) how can you know enough about WKU to know whether my opinion is off-base and asinine?
In some ways, knowing nothing about your opponents shows that you are only interested in UT and no one else, which is commendable. The flip side of that is that you (not meaning you specifically) do not have the knowledge base to make predictions and analyses of games and their outcomes (as many have done as it relates to WKU and UT).
I am not trying to be difficult, but I enjoy discussions when the participants have facts to base their opinions on, not just blind allegiance and emotion.
Did not mean to offend.

I have a prior commitment and won't make it to practice Saturday. Ugh.

I encourage everybody to go to the stadium Saturday. The O&W game in the spring was awesome and I'm sure this practice will be as good or better. Take your son or daughter -- this is a great (inexpensive) way to introduce them to UT football. We need to nurture the next wave of VFLs. :good!:

All that writing to try to justify WKU doesn't work here Homer. Its Gobbligook. You keep trying to talk up that toothless team you're jocking and I'll call on all of VolNation for an intervention. Drugs are bad Umkay.

Here comes the toothless jokes. The cry of desperation from a poster when discussing anything related to KY. Unfortunately when I lived in FL I listened to the same crap said about people from TN. Funny how that works.

I also just noticed the Cowboy logo as one of your favorite teams. How can you live in TN and not root for the Titans? Why don't you follow the home state team?
Are you from TX?

I am through with this conversation with you. I can get more intelligent responses from a 5 year old than you can provide. Your lack of analytical skills and intelligence is embarrassing. Maybe the glue you sniffed as a teen is catching up with you.

Cause some people grew up and already had a team when the goofy Titans were still the goofy Oilers. The Cowboys are my team and I've never lived in Texas. That was passed down to me by my Dad, just like my love for the Vols was.

It's one of those things that picks you, you don't pick it. Plus they are America's team, and the Titans look like they play in the Arena League.

This is real underrated.

Of the incoming '14 class, who are your top-5 impact players next year? Here's mine:

(1) Lambert - Starting 3-technique DT
(2) Lauderdale - Starting WR
(3) Weatherd - Starting OLB
(4) Hurd - Competes with Lane for starting RB
(5) Jackson - Competes for #3 WR (behind North and Lauderdale)

I've always been a Vol. Like you said it was hereditary, came with the blood, but for pros I was never a team guy at all in any sport. I had favorite players and they were on a lot of different teams. I could watch any pro team and enjoy it because usually one of my players would be on the field. This goes back to the days when the college all-star team would play the prior year's NFL champs. Lot of great names from that era. As to the Titans, it's not in the blood, not for me.

1) Lambert (DT) - Agreed
2) Kelly Jr. (S) - Have a feeling he'll be a leader from day one
3) Hurd (RB) - Too much talent to keep him on the bench for long
4) Mouhon (LB) - He just seems nasty to me
5) Medley (K) - Could have the best opportunity to win the starting job of any freshman.

Yeah I feel ya. I pretty much follow the Cowboys with the same tenacity and obsession as I do the Vols. Which makes me kind of not care about anything else that happens with other teams. The opposition always just seems like an obstacle to my teams goal.

Although playing fantasy football for the last 3 or 4 years has given me a much greater appreciation for the rest of the NFL in general. I started realizing there was a lot of great players I was missing out on by not following the sport as a whole. So I have a little better balance these days than I used to. But I would still rather the Cowboys win than my fantasy team any day of the week.

I'm going to go non Juco because they are brought in to play immediately, therefore would be on top of my list:

Hurd
Helm
Bates
Bryant
Kelly

Honorable mention to Henderson and Gaulden
