On Croom...

Butch Jones echoed the sentiments of a physical presence, something he and Azzanni demand out of receivers, especially one built like a power forward.

"He brings a level of physicality, a stature to be able to, especially in the red zone, it's all about match-ups in the throw game," Jones said. "To be able to do some different things in the red zone, a blocking perspective as well, he brings a lot to the table.

"He's a work in progress right now. But Jason comes to work every day."

I am not saying VQ did anything wrong but those quotes were done days ago I am sure.

I imagine the ones from Butch were done before camp started. I really doubt he's doing any exclusive interviews at this point.

I don't think they would give any media organization pictures and quotes if they didn't want the story released ahead of the official press conference or whatever. Holding it until after the players had their moment was probably good enough.

Also, Twitter sports fans' collective IQ belongs on a QB's jersey.

I'm just thinking the evidence preponderates in favor of VQ on this one.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

I will celebrate the day he gets canned. I wonder what his next stop will be. Because if you can't get it done at SC with the resources they have and the recruits that want to play there just bc it's SC then I don't think you can anywhere. OC somewhere I suppose. Lol got to love it.

I think this is the first step into converting him into a TE

Could be, especially with all the WRs coming in next year.

I still point to Marques Colston, a 6'5" 225lb slot receiver, as the guy Croom is most similar to in my mind.

If he's got the speed to run away from LBs, he definitely has the size to pile drive nickel backs. Whether it's at slot or TE, I'm excited.

I stumbled over to the football forums briefly, to see what they were saying about the new unis. All I can say is, I am glad that I was able to get back here, and regain some IQ points.

Former walk-on Jacob Carter has been in that second rotation alongside Croom. He said it wasn't a head-scratcher when the move was made. The fact was, they'd seen it on film before in Azzanni's meeting room.

"Coach Z has used a bunch of big guys in the slot," Carter said of his position coach's previous stops. "[It's] kind of working edges, working linebackers, seizing the areas and moving guys around with his size.

"Smaller guys, Devrin [Young], Pig, with speed help us out, but it's good to have a big guy in there moving people around."

Wherever Croom lines up, Jones and Azzanni are going to demand every square inch, and every pound, out of him. And as it always does with this coaching staff, it boils down to effort.

"The coaches push me everyday," Croom said. "They're going to get the best out of you. They're going to do whatever they have to to get it out of you. "They emphasize effort everyday."

I like Croom in the slot. It seems that we had better depth outside. Outside of Pig (who apparently has struggled some) we really don't have much inside. I like having a big tight end type receiver like Croom in the slot.

Usually don't like grey, but these... “@adidasUS: OFFICIAL LOOK: New alternate #TECHFIT uniforms @Vol_Football

- Twitterverse is starting to weigh in on the new unis.

I don't like the grey uniform. I'm just a big advocate for wearing orange at home games. That includes the team, coaches, and fans. I do like the changes to the other uniforms.

Kiffin is on his way out and recruits know it

Imagine where he'd be if he had stayed here and held the awesome 2009 class together.

When he too is unemployable, he can hang out with Mike Garrett and talk about how far arrogance and stupidity gets you in life.

"The coaches push me everyday," Croom said. "They're going to get the best out of you. They're going to do whatever they have to to get it out of you. "They emphasize effort everyday."

..."The coaches yell at me in practice all the time and it hurts my feelings and causes me to drop passes. My mom tells me I'm a big boy and don't need to be yelled at. I've asked her to call Butch and tell him just to stop all the yelling, because it makes me think about quitting."

There... fixed the quote. Ron didn't finish quoting the entire article.

With his luck, he'll take over as OC with the Seahawks.

Titans rookie receiver Justin Hunter has gotten an earful in his first few months on the job, a good part of it constructive criticism intended to toughen him up.

Early on, veteran safety Bernard Pollard was one of the guys riding him.

Pollard has let up, and now he can’t praise Hunter enough.

“I can’t wait until Justin Hunter realizes that he is a star,’’ Pollard said. “I can’t wait until he realizes that. It is out of control how good that guy could be.”

Pollard said Hunter reminds him of Bengals receiver A.J. Green, who had 97 catches for 1,350 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

Green, who’s 6-4, 207, has the same body type as Hunter.

After a shaky start to training camp, Hunter has made more plays in recent practices, something that’s gotten Pollard’s attention.

“When Justin realizes he can go in there and single-handedly destroy a defense, I think this team is going to be in for something,’’ Pollard said. “And we need Justin Hunter to perform now, we can’t wait. Because we are chasing that Lombardi Trophy and he’s the kind of guy who could help us get it.”

But speaking of USC...what's up with their recruiting class?Their ranked in the 50s on rivals. Where they not doing much better earlier in the year (like in the top 10-15)? What happened there?

I think the sanctions are kicking in and they aren't allowed to recruit very many players so as the classes fill up at other schools their relative ranking will fall. I would be surprised if their average player rating wasn't still really high though. Kiffin can still sell the hot sauce.

I don't like him or what he did but people tend to forget the situation he stepped into at USC. If you are trying to keep your talent level up until the sanctions pass then Kiffin is probably the right coach. USC will likely turn around and let him go once they are through with their punishment and we will have a complete inversion of what happened here... the university will have used Kiffin instead of vice versa.

Karma, she be a *****.

I'm ready to run through a wall for Butch, and I'm not a player. I can't imagine what these players will do for him. Get ready boys...it's almost FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!
