Yeah, saw one of the pics. Figured it was all in good fun, but wasn't up to speed on the situation. Muchas gracias.

Where do you guys think we end up now? I feel like top 5. I know this class is only good for top 10 last year atm, but that's not taking into account all the increases. Wolf, Thomas, Paulk, Gaulden, Lambert, Bryant, Creamer, and Brown all have a good chance to improve their rankings with a great senior season.

I think we're just going to have to get used to it for a little while, to the degree we can. I was optimistic the concerns on drops were overblown, but they don't seem to be now that we're this deep into camp.

From player interviews, it really does sound like the offensive scheme demands a lot out of the WRs. Some have said they are thinking too much while playing, which an affect route running and their ability to catch passes.

I think we're going to be a team that relies on defense, special teams, and the run game. I'm limiting my expectations of our passing game at this point, base on what I've heard out of practice.

That deep into camp line is important. The grind and all that. I think its like working out with weights. You push yourself to muscle failure but you're not going to really feel all that much stronger in the moment. You need a recovery period and then all things being equal the next time you work out you should be able to do more. In camp we're pushing ourselves. When we get into the season it should pay off especially in the late stages of the game.

I just find it difficult to believe that we have a bunch of 4 star receivers who cannot catch the ball and so I'll reserve jumping to that conclusion until I see it on a consistent basis in actual games. I always heard that perfect practice makes for perfect play so obviously the tidbits we are fed does suggest in time I too will surrender to disappointment. For now, we wait, 16 more days.

4-7, imo

Yea my bsd, in my mental roledex I had confused the red & white unis of ull & wku at the swamp.

1) Have there been any updates on Jones' knee injury since his tweet?

2) Anyone know if there will be any formal pregame festivities at Neyland Saturday before the practice?

My take is that it isn't a talent issue right now as much as a scheme/mental issue. I think it's just taking them time to get adjusted. This kind of thing is to be expected, honestly, when you have a new coaching staff and new scheme.

I think what we'll see this year is a team that steadily improves as the year goes on. That will be a far cry from the Dooley years. But I think we'll have to endure some wretched stretches before the improvement comes. I think the Florida game, in particular, could be brutal to watch.

I understand your thinking about the scheme/mental problems being the culprit but I just don't buy those two things are connected. Dropped balls could very well be mental I just don't think scheme causes that.

Coach ZA is obsessively high on technique, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, at this point, it seems the receivers are so focused on perfecting their technique on routes and footwork that they are losing some catches. As these things become more natural, catching the football will get better. Much like a golfer focusing too much on the plane of his back swing, and forgetting the most important thing which is squaring back up for solid contact with the ball. At some point, I think Coach will get these guys going. I just hope it is by the Oregon game.

I think there's a good possibility you are right. Another thing I always heard is that you work on mechanics in practice, meaning there's a lot of thinking going on, but in the game you have to trust your muscle memory, and play on instinct. So to your point, I'd expect to see steady improvement as the aggregate number of reps increase over the course of the season.

This.

If WR's have to think about the specifics in running a route because it is not 2nd nature, then it is obvious that 100% of their attention is not on catching the ball. The longer fall camp goes on, we should hear of improvement. Once they start gameplanning, it should get even better.

Funny thing is Florida's offense sucks too. :)

I respect this and 2002s line of thinking. I just think catching the ball is an instinctual thing along with confidence. If confidence is lost then nothing else really matters. That's where I see some of these issues.

I am going and wondering that myself.

It can become a confidence thing, no doubt. If, when they are doing route tree drills, they are dropping balls then we worry. I think most drops because they're thinking about spacing, yardage, and technique.
