@DaLamb89 informed me tonight that Gator coaches have called his grandma all day. No need to answer he said. #grandmaisallvol

Awesome. I think I like Butch's chances going forward in head to head match ups with Muschamp. Seems clear to me who is the more likable, genuine coach.

Thank The Lord! Just found out! Exactly what TN needs. Welcome Davonte!

The plot thickens. DaVonte has been quoted saying that he was promised a spot to walk in an start immediately. The catch? At Defensive End.

"Coach Jones told me that, basically, I'm going to walk in there as a starter at defensive end,"

The thing is I think we also said something similar to Carr and he's now a DT. I still expect DaVonte to be given a shot at DE first like he was promised.

Well, we need help at SDE next year as well

Telling a kid "if you do everything we expect you to do you will be our starting DE" isn't the same as promising a kid a starting spot. It's up to the kid how they interpret that line. It's all part of the game to get kids to say yes.

We don't know exactly what was said though. All we have is that one quote, and to me he seems pretty set on DE

Yea, I just can't see Butch promising a starting spot to anyone. He doesn't strike me as a handout type guy when it comes to starting spots. This kid better come in and work as we desperately need him to play a lot, but it always worries me a little when I see quotes like this from players who I feel think they are just going to walk in and be a starter. His chances of starting next year are high, but if I'm a player I'm not saying I'm a starter because coach told me.

Agreed. The "they pretty much told me" part of the quote leads me to believe they give him such a line as I posted.
Yeah, I'm not taking this like you guys. I really don't care about him being promised a starting spot or told he could be a starter. To me, we NEED DTs and our first commit might/probably will get his first shot at DE.

I don't have a problem with him playing SDE, because I'm not sure the staff is confident in landing Hendrix at the moment. If they stick to getting two more DTs that our JuCo along with Mosley and Barnett we should be fine.

I don't care what he was told either. As long as he is in our uniform. If we told him as I suggested after a few practices at DE it will be easy to say to him "we made a mistake it doesn't look like your role is going to be as big at DE as we thought but at DT you will move to the front of the depth chart". It's all part of the recruiting game and those that think we are immune to a few white lies are just being homers.

That would be a lot of beef. I would be down.

I'm waiting for LV to get on and give us a DT spiel now that we technically still don't have a DT commitment.

Yeah we did this to Carr, granted he was close to 290 when he first got here compared to a guy who is two years older only being 275 (height plays a role in those comparisons too).

Until I hear directly otherwise, he's a SDE in my mind though.

HOW DOES LAMBERT FIT IN?

At 6-foot-3, 275-pounds Lambert brings some versatility to the defensive line for the Vols.

At Georgia Military College, Lambert plays the defensive end position in the 3-4, but he likely projects as a three-technique defensive tackle at Tennessee. Regardless of where he plays on the line, the Vols will be in need of a veteran presence on the defensive line with the scheduled departures of Daniel McCullers, Daniel Hood, Mo Couch, Jacques Smith, Marlon Walls and Corey Miller.

To say Lambert will have every opportunity to contribute early is a vast understatement, especially at defensive tackle. After the senior trio of Couch, McCullers and hood leave, the Vols are left with very little in terms of experience. With only Trevarris Saulsberry, Danny O'Brien and Jason Carr currently on the roster filling in the defensive tackles spots after this season, Lambert will be a welcome addition to the rotation.

"Lambert's motor is elite and he shows instinct and a nose for the football that can't be taught. That combined with his near-perfect frame have everyone expecting a breakout sophomore season. Lambert has incredible athleticism for his size, making it clear that he's ready to contribute on the FBS level. His versitlility makes him doubly intriguing, as he has the ability to play a five technique or three technique role.

VQ and Rob Cassidy certainly see him as a DT at UT.

But DaVonte himself does not.

We need him at DT, and I think he could end up there, but its hard to go against a direct quote from the recruit. Like Bruin was saying he could start at DE and move to DT similar to Carr, but that's a long way away. He could do what Jaylen Miller did and drop some lbs
