Comparing the routes of 2007 thus far to 2006's throws shows you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, against Cal, you can remember the 2 to Meachem. But you don't mention the seam route he nailed. This season, he hasn't done ANYTHING downfield, so you have a valid point. However, last season, he pretty much threw all the routes we had.
The post of mine you quoted earlier wasn't directed at you. I have neither the interest nor the inclination to debate the merits of Erik Ainge's tenure at Tennessee.Stunna... hat... seriously.
Where am I off base in this? Everything I said about Ainge has come to fruition this year and were only 3 games into it. And the stats that I errored on actually made Ainge's numbers look better than they actually were.
How is pointing all that out "trolling"?
well all I got to say is that Ainge isnt the best qb or is he the worst but anyone blaming him for the Vols mediocre play is on some powerful dope.
He had his struggles last year... don't dismiss that. Florida, Kentucky, and Penn State were not games he was on his game. And 2 of those were late season games when he seemed to fall back to 2005 form.
Drug free.
Take a step back and HONESTLY grade Ainge's career and say to yourself has he ever given you as a fan (we're not even talking teammate) the warm and fuzzy feeling that he either wasn't going to have a mental break down or have a physical limitation/injury.
When has Ainge ever made a play? Tebow makes plays. Leak made big 3rd down plays to win a big game against us last year. Jamarcus Russle did the same. Rick Clausen made plays. Scheaffer had a big play that gave us the momentum needed to win against USC in 2004.
Ainge has been a complete and total failure as a QB. I know, I know... highest completion percentage in UT history. Big deal if you're throwin passes no more than 5 yards downfield (Cal game) or being held back because Cutcliffe doesn't have confidence in you to go downfield. Big deal...

None of those games were as bad as 2005. Not even close, and you saying that is ignorant.
Kentucky and PSU games: 44/70 (62.9%), 1 TD, 1 INT, 507 yards, 7.25 ypa. If he put up those numbers in 2005, we win the SEC East.
He had struggles for sure, but his only BAD game was against Florida, who had 8 draft picks on defense.
Remember, Tee Martin, Casey Clausen, and Peyton Manning all had bad games.
Don't get me wrong, Ainge's 2004 and 2005 were together awful. 2006 was not, especially considering defenses started to play the pass EVERY down.
44/70 with 1 TD and 1 interceptions wins us the SEC in 2005? Are you kidding me?
If I'm a fool for thinking otherwise, then I guess I'll have to be satisfied to live in a straitjacket.
yeah I understand what your saying but there has been plenty of games where we were in the position to win but the d failed again. You should not even mention the cal and fla game because manning could have came to back to play and it still would have ended the same-a loss.
Ainge has been a complete and total failure as a QB.
well when you give up 100 pts in 2 games its really hard to win.
It's like this:
Peyton Manning = Chateaubriand
Tee Martin = Filet Mignon
Casey Clausen = Porterhouse
Erik Ainge = Sirloin
Not inherently bad, but not awful.
You continue to bring up his record - he is not the only person responsible for that record. Thus, the defense matters.
Not arguing the whether the defense is bad. I'm saying that on 2 occasions just this year alone, Ainge cost us a chance to go for a first down and at least go down swinging in Cal because of his injury and this past Saturday, he's still not able to go downfield with consistency against Florida (or even make a deep throw to keep them honest).
Heck, if an injured Ainge gives us a better chance to win against Florida by not throwing downfield and being the catalyst for a momentum changing fumble that leads to a 59-20 rout, then what more damage would it do to get Coleman or crompton in there and let them get some snaps? Whats the worse that could happen... 70-10? 77-14? Same difference... but Ainge has run out of his breaks and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore. Enough with this. Lets see what Crompton and Coleman can do... 'cause we sure as heck know what we can expect out of Ainge.
