The Runner's thread

Topical pain relief. Anyone?

Talked to a friend who is a Physical Therapist. She did say new shoes are a must before I start running again.....said I should probably take a week or two off and let soreness heal. And asked about 500 questions about where/when the pain is (heal strike, flat feet, balls of feet). Came up with my feet kinda point outward so that causes pain on outside of ankle. And of course just started few months ago and have been pushing myself hard.

She mentioned the vibram 5 fingers....I just don't think I can do it. I've seen people wearing those and it freaks me out. :) Also mentioned Fleet feet and have them assess my gait and get fitted. Seems expensive.

Sucks cause I was diggin the running and definitely losin some gut.

The Five Fingers did great for my shin splints...no problems. Yeah, they're not the most attractive things in the world but they really force you to learn good running mechanics b/c you basically have no other choice but to run on the balls of your feet.

Cool. There's a fleet feet around here. Will have to check it out.

Highly recommend doing so...

as AAvoxx says they don't charge for the service.

Also, I would like to give my opinion on the vibram...I hate them. I wore them 1 time to run, and I didn't like them.

I do like minimalist running though. I am more of a kinvara kinda guy.

I really like the minimalist feel. I got my new Mizuno's on Friday and, while they feel great and my shin splints aren't flaring up that bad, I miss the feel of minimalist running. Easier to keep a good stride, IMO...maybe its mental, but that's just the way I see it for now.
