'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

There will be many more juco players pop up on the radar once the season start. There will also be many more recruits pop up on our radar. It's silly to have a mindset that these are the only defensive tackles or recruits we will take in early August. There will be many more no names and maybe even higher profile guys pop up.

I guess if your missing on guys now, hoping others pop up later is the only thing you really can do. Teams like bama, uga, and others don't seem to be waiting to find out who may pop up later. They are taking their DTs now. Missing/passing on guys like Toby Johnson and Ben Bradley could very well come back to hurt us.

I laugh at the name calling as well. I was just called a vagina a lil but ago. :eek:lol: Of course it depends on who you are when it comes to personal attacks and who can do it. Just gotta roll with it. :)

If you think that was a personal attack, then you've lived up to my assessment of you.

But we're both rooting for us to land some good DTs. Your points about needing them is valid.

Yes the recent offer to a 2* stud who we'll have to beat out Wake Forest and Tulane to get just screams that the DT class is full.

The same people who act mystified or indignant when this staff is questioned for some of its decisions are mostly the same people who went nuts over the previous 3 years when Derek Dooley was called into question.

You do know 2* is really a guy that hasnt been fully evaluated. This staff has shown they know what they are doing. Plus these service guys are saying this kid is blowing up and killing it this summer. He will atleast be a 3* and who knows later after the season. Just trust the Coach's, there is a reason they wouldn't take Poona and Williams, we will be fine until the Coach's show otherwise. But Poona Ford in particular has his stock dropping significantly. Tells me all I need to know that UT and USCe turned him away and ended up at Louisville

Who has UT missed on besides Sawyers? Its not waiting, film on some juco players aren't even out yet. Some players are going to have a good senior season and some won't. LSU doesn't have a dt commitment, UF only has one and USCjr has Lamin and some guy I've never heard of. UT apparently isn't that far behind.

I really don't understand why people are freaking out about the dline. Stripling is easily the best position coach on this staff. He may not be the best recruiter, but the guy is very very good at developing talent.

How have they done that? By winning in the Big East?

I am hopeful that CBJ will be successful here. But much of this sort of post is the same sort of bogus nonsense that was thrown around here for Derek Dooley's 3 years.

Right, because Dooley had won way more games than he had lost as a HC and also won a bunch of conference titles before getting to UT.

When you're a winner (like this staff) and you take in a winning mentality with everything you do it doesn't matter what conference your in. You know a winner when you see certain coaches/athletes and butch jones is a winner. He has won on and off the field everywhere he's been. He's energetic, positive, personable and instantly had this program buzzing again. Coincidence? I think not. Try to discredit that all you want but you know in your heart of hearts he's a damn good football coach.

Patrick Willis was a 2 star we passed on, Ole Miss which was not that much better than Kentucky at that time took him. The rest is history.

Guys: need to put ETNVol on ignore. He's not rational nor is he a Vol fan. Fans are generally excited about their team. ETNVol? Not so much.
Same sort of retarded nonsense I heard about Derek Dooley for the better part of 3 years.

Well just checking on a Lambert update. I assume nothing has changed. Things still looking good for us getting Lambert?

Not worried about the DT situation at this point. Trust in Butch!:clapping:

Incorrect..Dooley hadnt proved anything or win anything. He won Championships in a BCS conference and has won everywhere he has been, comparing Jones and Dooley is like comparing night to day.Nobody ever said Dooley had proven anything or the ability to win.

Didn't stop people from excusing every decision he ever made. See OL recruiting in 2011.

Not sure why you keep saying this. There was never this kind of excitement at anytime during the Dooley Era. Not among fans, former alumni, boosters or recruits.

Some stuff was excusable because of what he walked into but especially now we see how way out of his league he was here. He had no business ever getting a job like UT. Especially the way he treated former alumni that helped make UT what it is now and all the fences the new staff is having to mend thanks to Dooley and his recruiting tactics or lack thereof.

Where do you think coaches come from? Do you really believe SEC coaches were grown in a field? Saban got his start at Toledo, Urban Meyer at Bowling Green, Spurrier at Duke. The common denominator was that they won wherever they went. And in Saban's case only his final year at Michigan State before taking the LSU job.

Also people that think like you never factor in coaches from other conferences having less resources thus less to sell which means most of the schools they compete with get the same level of players. This tells me not only is Butch Jones a good coach, but that he was the top coach in whatever conference he coached in. It also tells me that this staff can make players better and are great at player evaluations being that they have to get recruits after all of the big boys got who they wanted.

I want the D-line shored up as well, but to me it's just as ridiculous to compare Jones to Dooley because he hasn't boosted his current #1 recruiting class with a complete D-line on your timeline. Besides, it's August. NSD isn't until February.

You and I don't always see eye to eye on things sanddune, but I have got to give it to you on this one. One of the best posts I've read on here in a long time. :hi:

And to me that's cool. At the end of the day, we are all Vol fans that want the same result. To see Tennessee take its rightful place back in the toughest conference in the nation.

X1000. I used to get a ton of $hit on here for questioning Dooley's work ethic on the recruiting trail, his constant excuse making and how he was always behind the 8 ball and terrible at building relationships. It was obvious the guy was a disaster. You cant win in this league with under the radar sleeper types.

I agree it's not panic time it being only August but one thing that does concern me is a lot of the big time guys that we are in on are committing to other schools. I think by the end of August, many will have committed and we'll have a better idea where we stand. If we get Mosley, Barnett, and Lambert, all will be good. If we whiff on all three, break out the mattress, lighter fluid, and pitch forks!

Not to derail this thread, but I think you can... if you have an elite coach. Petrino did very well at Arkansas and they weren't exactly setting the world on fire with recruiting. South Carolina has been the second or third best team in the SEC over the last three years without top rated classes (although Spurrier's clearly landed a few elite recruits along the way). With some notable exceptions (e.g., Clowney), Dooley arguably recruited at a similar level to both of them, from a simple Rivals rating standpoint.

But, regardless - Dooley clearly was not an elite coach, so he wasn't helping himself by not always signing elite talent.
