In Jacques Smith's interview, he singled out Jaylen Miller as a player that is impressing him early. Described him as explosive off the edge.

Am I a nega-vol for wanting to see North play in a game first before we anoint him to be a freshman All American? I love the comments about him, but it's practice.

I remember there was big hype for CP last year and people were skeptical. And he delivered. Hopefully North does the same

Few points to consider when comparing Patterson & North:

1. The hype for both was from highlights on YouTube, and other sources. Comparing the 2, Patterson showed more speed than North.

2. CP was in JUCO, and North was still in High School. More experience.

3. In Bray, Patterson had an experience QB to throw to him. Even if North earns a starting job, he does not have that luxury.

With that in mind, I wouldn't expect North to put out the highlight show CP did. At least, not yet.

However, I do think North will run better routes than CP. Patterson was more of an instinctual player, while North, from what I have seen, is more of a traditional type receiver. And with questions at QB, that may actually make North a better option than Patterson on offense.

However, if North has the ability to do some of things Patterson did after the catch, it will come out as his confidence builds, and he learns his craft.

I am going to accept North for who he is, and hope we can let him make his mark on his own merits. I wouldn't force him to live in the shadow of a one year wonder.

Work has me getting home around 6...shower, eat and to bed by 8...dogs wake me up around 2:30...so I use that quality time to post my Vol manifestoes...glad you enjoyed my rambling 49 :)

It was a good post. That's when I get my best work done, too.

I didn't anoint him anything. I simply said he will have a great chance with the playing time he will get. Sorry you can't distinguish that.

The thing that impresses me about North is that Jones said he already knows all three receiver positions. Not sure CP ever learned one of the receiver positions?? We saw what CP did on ability alone. Hoping North is the total package.

We are comparing game styles, not success.

Wasn't singling you out; just have seen a lot of stuff on twitter about North and how good he is already as a freshman. We should pump the brakes a bit and let him come into his own without a ton of expectations formed in Fall camp.

No college WR should be compared to CP. He was a physical freak and will win NFL Offensive ROY. Those in fantasy leagues, I'd draft accordingly.

He doesn't have to be CP to be more impactful or more important to the team. Marquez has great physical tools and a high football IQ. The real question here should be who is going to get Marquez and the rest of the wideouts the ball.

Was looking at Cincinnati's 2012 roster earlier today. They had nobody on the team last year that was over 300 lbs. By comparison, Tennessee has 16 guys 300+ on this years roster. Welcome to big boy ball, Butch. Lol

"MarQuez is still learning the little, fine details of playing receiver. Breaking points, release. I think the big thing is stamina and endurance. In three very small practices in a small period of time, he's proven that he's going to be one of our playmakers," Jones offered.

"He's dynamic, he's strong, he's physical, he can run. And we need him offensively, but what you see when players bring him up is it's a level of respect they have for him. He's extremely intelligent. He knows every single receiver position on the field already. I'm very, very excited about him."

"Work in progress. I'm really encouraged by Cam Sutton," Jones said. "He's going to add another dimension for us in the return game. He has a high level of consistency, but he wants to learn. He's like a sponge. He takes it in. Malik Foreman is progressing as well. I think it's those, again, they're understanding the level of intensity, the preparation that it takes from the meetings to the classroom."

"Freshman wide receiver Ryan Jenkins was one of those letting his coach know he was ready. Jenkins, during stretch, ran over to his head coach and smacked him on the rear to let him know was ready to be called upon."

Generally would agree but in this case the coach is fanning the flames and adding to the hype. Don't see that much

Not saying he will be as good as CP. but feel pretty confident he will be good and fun to Watch
