Archaeologists: We found piece of Jesus’ cross
After digging for four years, a group of Turkish archaeologistsarcheaologists believe they have found a piece of the cross of Jesus Christ, an artifact that could become an instant icon of Christianity.

My intent of this thread is not to start a debate of Christianity vs Atheism vs. Any other belief system you choose. The purpose of this thread is to be informative about a discovery in the Christian field.

If proven this is part of the cross, that researcher/archaeologist just made some bank.

Somewhere, somehow, Randy Moss can be heard saying "Straight cash homey."

quite a leap to go from piece of wood in an old chest to cross where Jesus was crucified. One of the last lines (from another article) made me pause a bit

Koroglu said she hoped her team's efforts this year would be fruitful. She suggested that the area along the Black Sea could grow in popularity with visitors.

Somehow I highly doubt that. For instance, how does one even go about proving that it's part of an event that may have never even happened?

What?

There is no doubt it happened. Jesus was real and was crucified. Most scholars won't argue that fact. They will however argue that he was the son of God

Pontius Pilate was real and he is who sentenced Jesus to die on the cross.

I like to stir the pot.

Still, now way in hell that they can even remotely come close to proving that it is part of THE cross, or even one of the 3 supposedly on Calvary.

Obviously, you didn't read my post at all with your subtle jabs.

Not starting a debate on Christianity. I'd like to discuss the validity of the claim. :loco:

Proving it is part of the Cross of Jesus is impossible. 10s of thousands of crosses were made during the time of Jesus. Crucifixion was so common during those times

Impossible, maybe not. Highly unlikely, yes.

C'mon now, you know you can't control the direction of a thread.

On topic: I find it extremely unlikely that this piece of wood came from Jesus's cross.

I'm going to go with....there's no way this will ever come close to being proven, but some will start worshipping the thing.

Would be interested to hear why they think it's the cross.

According to the video, it's a container of the type that might have been used to hold relics in the early church. And it's true, many supposed relics were collected and traded at that time. This could be one of them that dates back to the early centuries A.D.

But is it wood from the actual cross? I doubt it.
