Cruitin' Forum Football Talk V

Why? As long as these kids see the process (which they obviously do way more than we do) and believe in butch, there's no reason to not be optomistic. I've talked to multiple players (mostly Jacques and Bmoore) and they truly believe they're going to win 9 games so this could be where he got the number. Jac is also deadset on 15 sacks. When asking Byron how many picks, he put up 8 fingers. I know these are dreams but if the team is ready and confident, there are no guaranteed L's. Not to mention that most of these recruits have reiterated how solid their commitments are. I'm ok with this

That's great about the team being so optimistic. In the end, that's what matters most and I'm glad to those guys feel good about this year.

9-3 means we beat 2 of the top 10 teams in the country (according to the coach's poll). That would be a bunch of fun, but I'm not banking on it.

My only concern about this year's recruiting (and its not a very big one) is that a mediocre year on the field will cause some recruits to rethink their evaluation of Tennessee. Not sure many would decommit that are already committed, but it could make it a little harder for us to grab 2014 guys late and some 2015 guys. We'll see.

This sounds super biased but....the stretch marks on the new Adidas uni's look pretty bland on all of the uniforms I've seen except Tennessee's. The orange is the perfect color for it.

WOW! That was excellent! How do you get your brain to work like that so late? Guess I'm to old, mine shuts down about midnight. Go Vols! :clapping::yahoo::rock2:

Work has me getting home around 6...shower, eat and to bed by 8...dogs wake me up around 2:30...so I use that quality time to post my Vol manifestoes...glad you enjoyed my rambling 49 :)

No boomage makes me disapointed. :cray:

I want a DT or three to go ahead and commit.

New uniforms...

I am very uniform conservative, but I really like these! I think the state should be a little larger. The checkerboard should go all the way around...

When can we buy a uniform and the sleeves :)

I think the majority of the committs really love UT, Coach Jones and are building relationships with each other and want to be part of the class that helped get UT back. I think as long as we show improvement and dont just get our a$$es handed to us week in and out we should finish with a great class.

"Butch gave the work mostly high marks, said there was some fade at the end but that was to be expected.

Both Jones and Bajakian said that they were pleased with the retention they saw today for the most part.

On the QBs Jones' biggest observation was that they needed to be more accurate as a group. He noted that there were '66 balls' on the ground today, for comparison sake, he said a good day is around 20."

"As I posted earlier this is the 20th opening days I have seen and this is one of the better ones. That doesn't mean this is a great team or they have arrived, but what is clear is just how much they have invested as players this summer.

The retention particularly for the offense was really good. Bajakian used a headset today and they signaled in plays on day one instead of verbally calling them out. Not a common occurrence.

McCullers told me he is 352 and hopes to play in the 340's.

On the freshman front a couple of guys that I took notice of today was Foreman, and Sutton. Both those guys look really athletic. Hard to believe the Vols weren't recruiting Foreman prior to Jones' arrival.

Palardy looked to hit the ball well on punts today as well."

Take this FWIW. A letterman friend attended today that has coached football at the HS and college level in his past. Some very famous former players attended as well. First off he was so pleased that all he had to do was check in and get a pass with no hassle at all. He said the practice was the most organized and fastest pace he had ever witnessed anywhere. They got in 11 periods. One period was dedicated to Neyland's first maxim of ball security. Another big one today was form tackling. The traditions of UT will be honored highly by Butch & staff in all they do.

The two most impressive individuals to him were Worley and Tiny. He was very pleased with Worley's passing and understanding of the offense. He said Tiny was just plain scary looking. Did not appear to have an ounce of fat and was one big muscle. He said he did not see one lineman that had a big gut, totally different than in our recent past. Said there appeared to be some good players on the field and that the whole vibe of the program is so upbeat and different than what we have endured in recent years.

Some good notes.

"There was plenty of attention to detail on the fundamentals with ball security and such. Of course, plenty of eyes were on the quarterbacks and both freshman signal callers Joshua Dobbs and Riley Ferguson showed nice accuracy overall.

Tight end Woody Quinn was a popular name called out by Jones on the microphone as the head coach challenged his junior college tight end. Quinn looked to get off to a slow start, but ramped it up catching the ball better as practice progressed and showing athleticism.

Overall the freshman class looked the part as the young offensive linemen looked good from a stature standpoint, but the proof for them comes when pads come on. No freshman looks the part more than receiver Marquez North who's physical frame jumps out immediately in the receiver group."

Thanks for sharing the info. I am really looking forward to seeing this team in action. Great news on Worley as well. I think he will surprise alot of people. I see him having a 3000 yard season and playing like a winner out there.
