With current standings, who we have already committed and who is projected to commit we would be around 2457 points on rivals, which would have landed us in 8th place last year. Obviously rankings are going to change one way or another.

Remember, Rivals only does the top 20 players, I just checked their math and it comes out to exactly 20. So, anyone we add that is lower than the 20 we have committed now does nothing to our ranking; anyone we add that is higher than someone in our top 20 will give us a bump. Right now, 5.8 or higher is going to bump someone.

the next 2 that are 5.7 or higher will give us more points

Ahh yes, sorry, the last 2 are 5.6 on our top 20 list. When I was looking at it, I took our list of possible commits and there were 5 that I had who were higher than 5.7, so that messed me up. Although, I think our next 2 commits will be higher than 5.7 anyways so then we will have 5.7 or higher in our top 20.

Also, doesn't Rivals assign points based on a recruit's position ranking and Rival's rating?

For example, both Kelly and Payne are 4* DBs. However, Kelly is the 8th ranked DB with a rating of 6.0 and is in the Top 100 overall. Payne is the 15th ranked DB with a 5.8 rating and in the Top 250.

I believe Kelly gets additional points for these higher ratings/rankings. With this in mind, a school could have fewer 4* recruits than another, but still have more overall points on NSD.

no, the only way to get "bonus points" is where they are ranked in the top 250 overall

If you're worried about where we finish in the Rivals rankings, Humphreys, Hendrix, Wilson, Garrett, Malone, and Adoree Jackson are the guys you need to be hoping for. They're all big ticket guys who would add 50-100 points to our ranking.

I like the idea of finishing highly ranked as a small sub-competition but it seems like a very poor metric for evaluating the class or the coach.

Well stated. I 100% agree.

I agree. The 2007 recruiting class was #3 on NSD, but few would say that it held up to that rating.

I don't think we will really know how good of a class this is for at least two years. By then, we should be seeing their impact all across the field.

However, as LWSVOL likes to point out, the schools that consistently sign the higher ranked classes with a larger number of 4* and 5* recruits typically compete in conference championships and in BCS bowl games.

The first step to getting back on top is signing a strong class.

Every additional tenth of a point in the Rivals Rating scheme adds 15 base points. A 5.2 prospect, thus, is credited with 15 points, a 5.3 recruit = 30 points and so forth on up to a 5-star recruit (6.1), who receives 150 base points. Then, the prospect's position within the Top 250 determines bonus points. Jalen Hurd is a 6.0 prospect, ranked 19th nationally, so he receives 135 base points plus 61 bonus points = a total 196 points. This link (Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Rivals.com Football Team Recruiting Rankings Formula) will provide everything that you need to know in order to calculate the numerical value of any Rivals-ranked prospect.

Dooley's first class benefited from what Kiffin had in place. CBJ's first class was a train wreck by Dooley.

Exactly. Dools had 3 years to work on/toward and build the 2013 class. His efforts accounted for 9 of the 21 kids we signed.... CBJ got the other 12 in less than 2 months work.
