100+ visits to the WH and Obama never knew? Either he's completely incompetent (an option not yet discarded), is lying (still possible) or has given the power to make decisions like that to someone else (most likely).

I guess it depends on your definition of "administration." If you mean all x hundreds of thousands of people that work for the federal government, that's going to be a pretty high standard to to withstand.

The GOP obviously are hoping to keep this in the news and to have it go up as high as possible. I know Issa has rather recklessly tried to tie it to the political part of the administration, as opposed to the technical part.

If this is as good as he can ultimately do, meh, no one is going to care.

Until someone comes forward and actually claims it its obviously impossible to comment on their veracity, whether they were in a position to know what they claim to know, whether they have a political axe to grind, etc.

The burden is on the accusers, in this case Issa et al. Give 'em credit for trying desperately to get there, but they are falling way short so far.

Sad part is even if a signed order with Barry's signature and video tape of him signing the order was produced you would say it's "forged and faked".

At best, they've got a lawyer and Lerner holding up these applications. They are about 20 people removed from even sniffing the WH.

If this is the best Issa can do in "tying it to Washington," just whatever.

You keep saying this like only the GOP would do this. Targeting people with the IRS specifically because of their political views should outrage every single american left or right. This is the United States LG if you didn't know. Stuff like this happens in places like Cuba and North Korea but you act like its a witchhunt and no big deal. You know what, THERE SHOULD BE A WITCHHUNT BECAUSE THIS IS AN EGREGIOUS ABUSE OF POWER!

It's absurd and downright scary how much of a hack you are sometimes.

Here's the problem

1) People in Obama's inner circle knew there were problems at the IRS yet did not tell him (if we are to believe that). No action was taken. At a minimum that is shoddy leadership. Worse, the actions of the IRS matched the repeated rhetoric of Obama and his team.

2) In conjunction with the above, the IRS leadership is part of the administration.

3) Issa has not claimed Obama had anything to do with this.

4) The use of the IRS in this manner is a big deal regardless of whether it has political consequences

What could possibly be their motivation for initiating this program on their own? Why would they take the chance of destroying their careers without knowing they have back cover?

the "just a lawyer" was one of only 2 political appointees in the IRS. Probably not related but he also defended Jeremiah Wright's church pro bono during the 2008 election

Well, see, there's where you lose me.

I agree that its wrong to screen these groups based on their names. But then you just make the assumption that it is politically motivated.

The real problem, as we discussed about 10 pages ago itt, is that the exemption has been misused and abused over the past 50 years. Just dump the exemption altogether, imo. Problem solve.

Lois Lerner taking the 5th is all the evidence I and every American should need to support Issa and the rest of the Committee to do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of this no matter what.

I imagine you are in the camp that thought GZ was automatically deemed guilty because he did not testify?

This is a distinct problem; not the "real" problem.

Dissatisfaction with the law does not justify differential treatment and harassment based upon political affiliation.

Regardless of who is in power the other side can always claim that they've been singled out. We've seen that time and again. And when you have an exemption that basically equates political activism with promoting social change, there's just no clear dividing line at all. That gives the party complaining "proof" that they've been abused, and prevents the party in power from ever truly being able to defend itself.

It'll just go on and on and on.

Dump the exemption.

Next, when did the IRS admittedly start screening tea party tax exempt applications?

Thirdly, would this extra screening not directly affect the Tea Party and their outreach to the community to get their message out thus "supressing" said message?

He didn't have to testify and there was no reason for him to. His story remained consistent from Day 1.

Nobody even knows Lerner's story because she hasn't said anything other than to answer a planted question that started this whole mess.

It's a joke that you're trying to compare the 2 but par for the course...
