This. If a kind doesn't mind being a silent, I would keep a few commits in my back pocket in case there is an unexpected loss or player suspensions. If something negative like that happens then you call up the player and tell him to go public. That would take some of media pressure off the event and help keep the fan base positive. I doubt many kids would want to do that but it sure would help if they would.

I'm not sure he'd use them to mitigate a negative event; that's too much of a self-fulfilling prophecy IMO. I think he'd do it to just keep UT's name in the press and college football news to keep the momentum from slacking.
