“I’ll be at Vanderbilt this whole weekend, actually, for 7-on-7 stuff. I’ll be around the coaches the whole weekend,” said Barnett, who’s now ranked the nation’s No. 146 overall prospect in the 2014 class by 247Sports.

“And then I’ll visit Ole Miss. I’ll be at UT for some type of, like — I don’t know what it is — like, a get-together with a bunch of recruits and stuff (next weekend).”

“I’m still talking to my mom about it,”

“We’re not completely sure yet. It’ll be in, like, mid-, late August or after the season — one or the other.”

"(Jones) was just saying that he’s going to recruit me,” Barnett said. “I mean, (Tennessee assistant) coach (Mark) Elder, he’s my recruiter, but Coach Jones said he’s going to take over now. It shows me that I’m a top guy to them, and they want me.

“(Vanderbilt) coach (James) Franklin, he (also) does it a lot. He recruits me hard. And Coach Jones is starting to do it. I mean, he’s been recruiting me, but he said he’s going to take over.

“But they both are recruiting me hard, and that means a lot to me.”

“She enjoyed the visit,” he said. “So far, she’s been to UT and Vanderbilt. She liked the UT visit, she told me. She’ll probably be with me at all the rest of my trips.”

He also said that he has two good friends, Jashon Robertson and Michael Sawyers (both DL), and commits to Vandy that are recruiting him pretty hard to Vandy right now.

while i think we grt this kid bc of momma. it would be an embarrassment of colossal proportions if two dl (pos of huge need) committed to that **** head james franklin

Do you "like" Tennessee's chances for a Barnett commitment?

I'm not ready to say that yet, but I think Tennessee has put itself in a great position and wouldn't want to trade where they are with Barnett with anyone else. I just think it may be too early to say something like that.

They are recruiting him as a defensive lineman. With his frame you just get him here and figure it out. At 270, he still moves really well, but he could certainly get leaner and stronger. I see him as someone who could grow into a DT, but he can stay at 270, lean up and play DE.

For example, Dillon Bates has been a known commodity for a year now. Played an entire season of football. Had offers from everybody. Was ranked #204 or something.

Goes to a couple camps. Looks good. Bumped 102 spots.

Great for Dillon. Great for us. But what was their justification for having him ranked at 204 to begin with? He may have improved some, their sample size got a little bigger, certainly, but that doesn't explain a 100 spot jump if accuracy of the rankings is even a consideration for them at every eval cycle.

Because the camps match ALL of the elite prospects, and you can compare them against each other. Dillon Bates is a great prospect, and you can tell by his season highlights along with his offer list. But, you can't compare him to the other elite Top 250 during the season. Then, he goes to camps and The Opening and plays well against top competition, and he moves up. That is why the evaluation is justified.

Now, this doesn't happen with everyone, and I agree that some guys get bumps for no reason. After all, it is a business. But, this is how it should work. You evaluate based on highlights and offers, and then you adjust based on his performances against other great players.

Are he and the Ensworth DT who just committed to Vandy a threat to go to college together? Anyone heard if they have discussed playing together in college?

I just went to a Vandy forum to check on what they said about Barnett... I honestly feel dirty... and a lot dumber than before I went in...

They seem to think they won't get Barnett. Probably stating the obvious, but I believe he's all Vol. I'd love to get this guy and Ford.

Derek may have moved up his date some according to one his coaches. BA leaves for a team camp 7/28 and he told the coach he was thinking about making his announcement before they left. He is still all Vol.

Also, he still expects Gaulden to announce before Derek even though Derek may be moving his announcement date up.
