How can you have two ridiculous finishing holes like they had set up?
The same reason you have a 250 yd par 3, a 98 yd par 3, a 500 yd par 4, a 600 yd par 5, rolled fairways, rough too thick, no first cut, OB 3 feet from a fairway, players without drivers in their bag, a course that punishes too many good shots, and a practice range a mile away.
Fitting that the only hole in one in US Open history was a bad shot that got a lucky kick out of the rough to go down the putt putt slope and in the hole.
