what next gen console are you getting and why

No personal attack. I'd say I'm in the same boat. MS has proven through the years that they know how to earn money by the boatload. I know for a fact me, and most likely you don't have the same credentials, so to try and second guess their strategy and in many peoples case simply call it flat out wrong, seems misguided to me. Like you said though, if they're getting crushed to the point of actually losing money (a scenario which I can't even see how it would be possible because of the profit from XBL subscriptions) then they're nothing more than a simple software patch away from righting a lot of what led to this. I doubt there is anything that can happen in this one generation that would flat out shut the entire division down. PS3 was a disaster at launch, and they've recovered from it.

No company is infallible. Look at Sony. They OWNED the gaming market going into this current generation with over 100 million PS2's sold. However they priced themselves right out of the market with PS3 because they wanted so badly for blu ray to win the format war. Now in the end, they did succeed in doing that but it cost them big time market share and profit! Plus they were short sighted when it came to the significance of online play and the development of their network and services. Live was vastly superior to PSN in the beginning and so Sony has spent pretty much this whole generation playing catch up.

Now I say all that to say this, don't assume MS is going to make the One a success just because they're MS and they have deep pockets and a lot of marketing. Look at the Zune, look at their cell phones, look at their tablet. None of those hardware products did very well.

XBOne could very well end up being a relative failure, but I don't think that losing the battle during one generation of consoles is going to cause MS to cash out entirely on the gaming industry as somebody else was suggesting. I imagine they would try and learn from their mistakes, and try and come back stronger next time. Or even better, they might could fix it without even having to release another console. I feel like most of people's biggest complaints could be addressed with a simple software update. I mean, even within the current generation, the interface and software that is currently in use of the 360 bares almost no resemblance to the software that it launched with.

Here's a system size comparison picture. The PS4 is TINY compared to Xbox One!

Wow thanks for the pic.

Sony will be making bank off of PS+ subscriptions as well, which at this point in time looks to have way more value for consumers.

IV had this arguement with my brother who is a Xbox zombie. He refuses to buy a PS4. It really is about preference. If you like gaming ps4 is for you.if you like to watch TV,game, and get on Facebook at the same time? You will go to xbox

I'm going PS4 mainly cause of price. New Xbox features wouldn't cause me any problems, but the extra $100 is not worth it.

What time frame would one guess a price drop may happen? I don't want to get one at release only to have the price drop in 6 months, now if we are talking a year plus then that's another story.

I'm sure sales will be the major deciding factor, but if they plan on another 7-8 year lifespan for these consoles, I don't think the prices will drop that quickly. Plus, I think they'll roll out some more expensive bundles before they do price drops.

I just got am email from Amazon saying that both my Xbox One and PS4 are upgraded to first day order benefits even though I ordered them the second day.

With Amazon, when you pre-order any gaming items, they are shipped to you on release day. At least that is what happens to me every time I select second day.

Amazon is confusing me. They have the launch edition ps4 as unavailable, I'm assuming because they sold all their pre-orders, but they have bundles that say guaranteed for launch day. Anyone know what's up with that?
