"It's just wonderful," Cherry said. "I sat down with coach Butch (Jones) and he was just great. As much as he cares about coaching, he cares more about his players. He is very genuine. The facilities were awesome. It's a great place."
"I'm cousins with Tony Thompson and I've had other family here," Cherry said. "Coach (Tommy) Thigpen is like a father. He speaks the truth and I know I can get the job done with him. He is just a cool guy to be around and he is a motivator. All the coaches and players feel like family."
"We are going to build tradition," Cherry said. "I hung out with all those guys and Jalen gave me a big hug as soon as I walked out of coach Jones office. I'm very excited to be a part of this and we have all exchanged numbers."
The need for linebackers can't be stated enough and Thigpen and Jones made sure Cherry knew they needed him.
"Coach Thig and coach Jones both told me how bad they needed me," Cherry said. "A.J. (Johnson) and Curt (Maggitt) might be gone when I get here so I'm going to be able to come in and compete and maybe play right away. I'm going to work hard because this opportunity is great."

It is a tradition in my family and I am just so excited to commit to them, Cherry told InsideTennessee.com I am here on campus and you can tell they dont just care about football, they care about you as a person and academics too. Tennessee is just a special place.
The coaches were really excited when I committed, he said. They were hype. Coach Jones couldn't believe it. It was like we had known each other for a long time. Its just great to be committed to Tennessee.
Cherrys cousin, Tony Thompson, is a former Tennessee running back (1987-90) and grabbed the starting role as a senior leading the SEC in rushing with 1261 yards on
the season. He is also remembered for having stepped in for 124 yards against Memphis State in 1988 when Reggie Cobb went down, 128 yards against Vanderbilt in 1989 when Chuck Webb was injured.
Cherry finished his sophomore season with Frostproof (Fla.) High School with 115 tackles and two interceptions. FOX Sports NEXT national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons had the following to say of the Vols newest commitment:
He is a very strong inside linebacker. He tackles with some force behind it. I like his instincts, his form, and his ability to strike. Not elite speed sideline to sideline, but a very good downhill kid and a kid I see as a future four-star on Scout.

Tony Thompson...now there is a guy gave more of what he had in talent than any other back that has ever played at Tennessee.
