I have played both. Hockey was more fun but required more to setup (no pickup games). Bball is a whole lot easier to play anytime. Therefore, to me it is a tie.

We have drop games 3x a week at the rink here, usually get 25 or so shifting on, with 2-5 goalies swapping out.

I did enjoy a ton of roller hockey when I was a kid. Hard to check the **** out of somebody with no boards though.

We used to have pick up games on Browns Pod, which is probably dried up by now, outside Willimantic.
