There is a (confusing) discussion in the VQ message forums indicating we may get another commit today. I'm not putting much stock in it, but something to keep an eye on...
Another potential facilities project is the boathouse on the Tennessee river which is the home to the Lady Vol rowing team. Hart is having a feasibility study done to see if they renovate that building how it can incorporated for the Vol Navy to use on football Saturdays.
While many players are home, several remain in Knoxville to rehab injuries and to take mini-term classes. For the Vol coaching staff, the travel plans remain full as they continue to recruit during the spring evaluation period. There has been a ton of focus on the state of Tennessee and not just schools that have prospects for the class of 2014 or 2015. Each assistant on staff has a part of Tennessee and this spring those coaches have done or they are in the process of visiting all the schools in their in-state territory. In talking to high school coaches throughout the state, it's something that has been really appreciated particularly from those coaches who don't current have a player on the roster who projects to be a Division One prospect.
As the coaches on staff travel the country to see various prospects, head coach Butch Jones has worked the state speaking at various functions in an effort to continue to get his message out. There's obviously a lot of talk among the Vol fans about being relevant again.
When was the past time we had a coach and staff that went around to every high school in the state? I'd venture to say none before. Mack Brown used this approach in the state of Texas when het took the tu job.
Cuonzo Martin, Butch Jones and Dave Hart all just finished speaking with the media. John just posted some notes in another thread but I was going to add a few more.
Jones confirmed that Daniel Gray is transferring and they are helping him find a school closer to home. He believes they won't lose anyone to academics as he really liked the way his team focused on school the last few weeks heading into finals. He said they don't know for sure yet, but believes everyone is good.
Martin said it's tough to see Trae go and he wishes him nothing but the best but he believes in his guys around him. We tried to ask about point guard specifically but he didn't have any direct answer other than liking the guys he has.
Hart laid out his facilities plan as well that includes a Pat Summitt statue, a new volleyball facility, a new athletic dorm and more.
We'll videos, photos and stories coming to you very soon from here.
