Explosion in Boston?

Their actions last night don't even remotely scream thoughtful motive, in my opinion.

It could be a couple of kids that wanted to cause havoc. I don't understand why everyone wants to jump to conclusions on their motive, I.e. religion, Chechen wars, decadence, etc.

The fact that it was obviously planned out makes me believe there was a thoughtful motive. However, at this point I don't think one can even attempt to assume what that is.

It's possible their ethnicity is just happenstance

And I just looked it up, and I was wrong about Beslan. That was indeed Islamists. Regarding motivation, I don't really know. I think we've largely taken a see no evil, hear no evil approach to Russia's dealings in the Caucasus. If it were about Chechnya, I would say the attack would have been a Russian embassy here, but that's just me spitballing.

Exactly, if they were Chechen separatists I don't see the point them engaging targets here.

I highly doubt any of them live to tell us the motive.

Unless, of course, they were planning to set more IEDs and were caught in the act.

Seems like the campaign to portray these guys in a sympathetic light has begun. The reports stream on 750 WSB here in Atlanta has been airing a steady parade of neighbors and family of the suspects and the "i didn't have any idea they could be capable of this!!!" quotes are getting a lot of play. Apparently one of the guys is a two time golden gloves heavyweight champ and either one or both wrestled in HS....

In truth, it may be a good thing that the media is not rushing to "other" these guys to gin up already high emotions....

I dont doubt they have/had a motive, but as far as escaping goes, we're dealing with some jv players. These guys had zero foresight and 24 hours at the minimum to get out of the state at least, let alone the damn city.

I'm not really jumping to any conclusions. It really makes no sense to me. The couple of kids who don't fit in socially here makes as much sense to me as anything. I don't see evidence from what we've been presented that this is part of some terrorist cell.

From research conducted by UNC and Duke University.

All Terrorists are Muslims...Except the 94% that Aren't | loonwatch.com

It’s hard to believe that the saying “A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on” was written almost a century-and-a-half before the age of the Internet. The extent to which falsehoods can reach millions of people in the blink of an eye has never been greater. Internet lies are very difficult to kill. Even if debunked, they have a tendency to be continually “rediscovered” again and again.

Such was the case with a false and deceptive Internet essay about Muslim terrorism that went viral the weekend of September 19th.

The essay was first posted in January 2010, on the website Loonwatch.com (a site dedicated to attacking those who confront Islamic extremism). Titled “All Terrorists are Muslims…Except the 94% that Aren’t,” the essay, which was posted by Loonwatch’s anonymous administrator “Danios,” claimed that “FBI statistics” prove that Muslims account for only 6% of terrorist acts in the United States (I am purposely not linking to the original source for the piece, because the Loonwatch site attempts to download malware into visitors’ computers. Anyone wishing to look the essay up on Loonwatch does so at their own risk).

According to Danios, a shocking 42% of all terrorist acts are committed by Latinos. “Extreme left-wing groups” account for 24%, Jews 7%, and Muslims a mere 6%.

Within hours, the essay made its way to radical Muslim (and Muslim apologist) message boards, with its title changed to “FBI: More Jewish Terrorists Than Muslim Terrorists in USA.”

Yet the bogus essay never achieved viral status, in part because it was, well (there’s just no way to sugar-coat this) idiotic. “Danios’” statistics were taken from an FBI document titled “Terrorism: 2002-2005.”

I don't think so. I think the media is simply interviewing anyone and everyone that knew these guys, and these individuals knew them as what appeared to be good guys. However, the media has also played the clip from the uncle two or three times, in which the uncle says they were worthless.

They could also be just a small part of the equation and didn't feel the need to run until their pictures poped up.

If they're "small picture" guys apart of a much larger sleeper cell or something, then they've botched this whole deal. IMO, if they're apart of a group, they would have been instructed to off themselves. If that were the case, the chickened out and had no real plan of action on how to escape.

Just speculation on my part.

The giat I'm catching is that these were two regular joe types until they went off to college. The apparently "self-radicalized" while in college, which should come as no surprise.... I'm sure they received a steady diet of anti-American rhetoric while there.... I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions like that but universities being what they are.....

KABOOOOMMMMMMM!!!

Wow. You might want to read past headlines and titles. Here are the pages, from the document titled 2002-2005, of all the terrorist attacks from 1980-2005:

FBI — Terrorism 2002/2005

None of that supports your "98%" assertion.

where did you hear they lost him? Thought he was penned up in a house.

It's being reported here. Not sure that they have lost them, just put out information that they are looking for a gray Honda CRV with MA plates that fled, might be in CT.

Update: just reported that vehicle has been found, in Cambridge.

So, probably still in the house in Watertown (which is still surrounded).

Stand off is still status quo then I presume.

If they have evaced the surrounding citizens, and he's not coming out, might be time to head up the stairs.

I'm hearing the same thing. Hopefully the police can capture this guy alive.... I am interested to see if he will say anything about the motives for their actions....

Yeah, looking for a Honda CRV in Connecticut that the suspect might have fled in. House in Watertown still surrounded. So, who knows what is going on.

Edit: Sorry, didn't know there was an update above my post. Are they still looking for the Honda CRV in CT.? Is the house still a mark?
