An assistant coach for one team told the newspaper that when that team interviewed Mathieu, he was asked how many drug tests he failed in college.
"I quit counting at 10," Mathieu answered. "I really don't know."
The assistant told the newspaper that Mathieu's statement had him pointing his finger at LSU as much as the player.
"If he flunked 10 tests before they suspended him, it shows that he got no kind of help," the coach said.
ESPN's player ratings are whatever for the most part. I just looked and as of right now, we already have 5 guys (Hurd, TK, Payne, Wolf, and Vic) that are expected to be in the ESPN 300.
We had a total of 3 (North, Dobbs, and Ferguson) from last year. Last year's recruiting cycle, IMO, could simply be labeled as missed opportunities. They had opportunities to fill some holes but either missed on some guys or they just decommitted.
Several guys that we missed on or decommitted from last year's class: Mack Alexander, Kam Miles, Cam Patrick, Koehler, Goeas, Ben Bradley, Zanca, Barnes, Campbell, Turman, Henry, Folston, Green, Ford, Barber, Ramsey, Bell, Levenberry, Grace, Trey Johnson, Lawson, Hatcher, Toby Johnson, Boyd, and Gibson.
Those are just the guys off the top of my head. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but that list is crazy!
This 2014 class already has a solid foundation and has the upmost potential to be very special, even legendary.
I expect to hear that he's making progress as a player. Kerbyson is the same year and same position. Why are we hearing lots of positive information about him?
By all accounts from spring camp, nothing has been mentioned about Posey.
Good and bad offensive line depth: Offensive line coach Don Mahoney said he is very pleased with the work of reserve linemen Kyler Kerbyson and Mack Crowder. He said Crowder might be a touch ahead of Kerbyson at this point, but he likes Kerbysons effort.
Kyler is making strides, Mahoney said. Im really encouraged by him. Hes understanding the offense, playing fast.
Mahoney wasnt as optimistic sounding about reserves Alan Posey and Marques Pair, saying they both have a ways to go at this point. Tennessee could potentially lose all five starting offensive linemen in 2014, meaning the likes of Kerbyson and Crowder could make up the core of the starting unit in two years. - Damiel Lewis
On M. North playing early....
"He is known as being raw and will have to polish his game as every receiver does, but I'm sure they will find ways to get him the ball. This team will run a lot of bubble screen stuff and end-arounds and I definitely see them getting North involved like that early on."

I go back and forth on this receiver "issue" we are having, but I'm optimistic in the end this will sort itself out. Between North, Croom, Harris, Jenkins and Pig, I've got to believe we will find more than one reliable playmaker. Hopefully it's just a matter of getting these guys healthy, in shape and comfortable with the scheme. We will see.

Hubbs thinks a team led by Matt Sims behind an inexperienced line with Poole as the starting RB is better than this one I see. Also one with only Malik Jackson and Janzen Jackson as playmakers on defense. The only advantage the 2010 team had was in the receiver department. Don't believe the hype.
And you defended your point with some intelligence unlike others. You obviously can't read. Please quote where I said North would have this offense mastered by the time he arrives on campus and would start Day 1....
All I said was that we need North to show up. He's a very talented receiver. I never said he would start. But Marquez brings 3 valuable things to the WR group... skill, competition, and depth.
Do I expect Marquez to make a splash like Amari Cooper did last year? No, and for a couple reasons.
Danny O'Brien has been a bit of a forgotten man after redshirting last fall, but he's gotten the attention of the staff in recent weeks with the strides he's made on the practice field.
"Danny's had a good spring. He had a long way to go technique-wise, specifically with the development of his hands. Danny's gotten much better there," defensive line coach Steve Stripling said.
"That's what was holding him back, he just wasn't using his hands very well. He's made tremendous progress though and he's a tough kid, a scrapper. He's going to continue to get better."
