Jones is expected to address Lane's status following Saturday's scrimmage. But with options so limited at tailback, don't be surprised to see more of the work moving forward that involves both Devrin Young and Pig Howard in the backfield.

This is almost comical when you consider half of our WR's are in yellow shirts already. It's almost as if we can't even assemble an offensive unit.

We NEED a stud RB this fall. Need. Lane is having trouble with discipline, Neal isn't good enough, is Hill or Summerhill really going to become a great RB over the next 5 months? Very doubtful. The staff is considering moving Pig and DY to RB and we're already very thin at WR.

Why don't you think it's worth bringing in a proven stud RB? He had some trouble, went to some JUCO or wherever he is and wants a shot to play one more season. He only needs to be a good boy for a few months this fall and then he's off to the NFL.

If not Dyer, what's your solution to our desperate need for a RB?

Ron, you know how much I respect and love the info you bring but I just disagree with you on this one. I just don't see why the staff would want to take a risk as Dyer is seeing that its their first season and the family atmosphere that he has brought back to UT. I personally would much rather see someone like pig or JRM give it a shot a RB for this season seeing that we got two studs coming in next year. Its jmo but I just don't think its the risk. But as far as you are concern I will reach back in time and say "I love man"

2013 is going to be a wash anyway. You have Hurd and Paulk coming in for 2014. Neal will be serviceable this year as a starter. While RB isn't going to be a strength, it's not going to be a huge weakness. Remember, we as fans always overreact to spring ball and what coaches are saying. We'll be average at RB.

You don't bring in somebody who has been dismissed from multiple teams unless you feel confident he has moved past the transgressions. If Dyer has, then the staff will bring him in. But he is not a "need" or a "must get." That's hyperbole.

Not gonna lie, this Lane situation worries the heck out of me. If he comes back I'd have to disagree with ya. We should be pretty dang good at rb. Without Marlin depth is a major concern.

With ya on Dyer. If it was my decision I'd pass.

That was actually my reaction as well. It's almost comical when you think of how hard a time we had recruiting an RB this last recruiting cycle. How many 4 star talents will be riding the pine at Alabama and elsewhere, while they clearly would have a shot at being first year starters at Tennessee.

Oh well. I'm just pulling for us to have a 6 win season and get to a bowl game. As long as we don't perform poorly in a way that would hurt our 2014 recruiting class, I'm fine with whatever happens on the field. It's going to be a tough slog, I think. But I think Butch can help us navigate it.

Depth is still a concern no matter what. In the SEC you need 3-4 good backs. Not 1-2 above average backs

Ron, have the coaches said what the injuries are?

Vincent Dallas (concussion like symptoms), Paul Harris (hamstring), Jacob Carter (foot/ankle) were all out on Thursday. Carter is in a walking boot that he is not expected to get rid of for another 2-3 weeks. Jason Croom tweaked his hamstring on Thursday leaving his status up in the air for the rest of spring.

What's the deal with Hill? He looks every bit the part. Too slow? Fumbleitis?

The staff have been very complimentary of Hill. He's working hard and progressing but he's not a starter in this league, not right now anyway. Probably a step or two too slow. But I bet he gets plenty of playing time this fall. I hope he keeps progressing, we'll need him.

Just gotta have faith in ol Coach G. I was with you thinking we could win 7-8 and win a bowl game this year. But now that the Lane stuff is out...if he doesnt come back I just see 6 and a bowl. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but this sucks donkey hoo-hahs.

Still love my Vols though

Holy ish. The video on VQ that covers 1 on 1's with the WRs and DBs is so diappointing.

Croom seems like the most consistent WR we have right now. DY dropped several balls. Pig's timing was off. Bowles dropped a couple. And Blanc's route running and timing was off also.

Really need Marquez North to show up. Yeah its that bad....

Also need Harris and Dallas to get healthy. Really long way to with the WRs.
Yeah Marquez is going to come in and walk through this high tempo fast paced offense blindfolded. He won't need a lick of an adjustment period of 11 practices in. I can't wait.

By all reports Dyer has turned his life around with the help of family and counseling. Whether Jones chooses to pursue him or not will be his decision to make and I trust what he decides. I do know that Dyer possesses the very skills that are sorely lacking from our RB's.

In this period of redemption the words, "he who is without sin should cast the first stone" applies.

I find it humorous to see people posting how 18 year old freshmen are going to come straight from high school football beat out a former Gatorade National Player of the Year and another top rated QB when they have had experience in playing against elite speed and making decisions against it while working at an uptempo pace.

I hate to burst their balloons, but it just is not going to happen.

Honestly, all the worry about rb is a little hyped up imo. With our vet o line, any back you put back there should be able to get chunks of yards. We just probably won't have a ton of busted open long runs this year. I'm not worried that much.
