'15 TN DB Rico McGraw

Talked with his mom yesterday and she told me about them going to knoxville over the weekend. Said they were very impressed with everything and absolutely loved all the coaches. She said they had never even gave the Vols a thought, because the word to them was that our former coach didn't want kids from Tennesse. She said that this was eye opening and gave them things to think about. Long way to go to land this kid, but they have to stay after him. He is a good kid that wants to succeed. Love to see him a Vol! Got to recruit him hard.

While I think CBJ and staff are focused alot more on keeping the in state kids interested in coming to Tennessee, the last staff did sign 16 kids from in state the last few years. Hard to say they did not want in state kids if they took 16.

I was just letting everyone know what the word was with some of the kids out there, as well as their parents. This is just a small part of the uphill battles that this staff has to face. I do know that we got some in state talent, but if a college coach is unliked by your high school coach, they will never push a kid toward that school, and this is the perception that is still in our state with some these high school coaches.

This. That has James Franklin written all over it.

“Everything went pretty well,” said McGraw, who’s expected to be one of the top prospects from the state of Tennessee in the 2015 class.

“I talked to every single one of the coaches. I felt welcome there. They showed me all the new facilities, so that was great. I feel real welcome there, real comfortable there visiting with all the coaches.”

“I had a great relationship with (former Tennessee assistant) coach (Derrick) Ansley, who was the previous (cornerbacks) coach,” McGraw said. “But that (new) coaching staff as a whole, they just showed me a new side of Tennessee. Then, the new commits. They’ve got some big things planned coming up.”

“They made it clear I’m high on their charts, I’m one of their number-one guys from my class,” McGraw said. “They really just told me what they think I’ll be for 2015. They think I’ll be a high-ranked player, and I’ll be really high with them.”

After meeting with Jones and his staff, McGraw said he’s high on them, too.

“I actually really liked them,” he said. “It was everything I expected. (Based on) everything the players told me, the players are really cool with them. Coach Jones, I got to spend some time with him and (defensive backs) coach (Willie) Martinez, and they had some good things to say.

“(Martinez) spoke with me about not only being a football coach, but being my mentor, keeping an eye on me, making sure I do everything right. And he’s one of those coaches that stresses technique.”

McGraw said he arrived on campus after many of Tennessee’s visitors — including several of the Vols’ current commitments — already had left. But he said he was able to talk with Tennessee commitment Vic Wharton of Independence High School in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., while he was there.

“I talk to players like him all the time,” McGraw said. “He was just telling me what the coaches were telling me — that they’ve got big things coming up.”

McGraw said that UT is looking at him currently to be a CB. He also said that he will be back in Knoxville in the next two to three weeks (due to a tournament in the area), and he said he will definitely be attending the spring game.

He has chosen our spring game over Bama's. This could be an interesting one to watch considering people thought he was a bama lock going into this year.

McGraw was in Knoxville to watch Tennessee during spring practice. It wasn't his first time on Rocky Top, but was the first time he'd seen some of the new things going on around campus.

"I just took a tour of the new facilities and spent time with the new staff," McGraw said. "It was actually really different with all the new things that have been going on. There was a lot of energy with all the big time recruits that are committing there. They are definitely on their way back."

Butch Jones and his staff have been the rave review of several different prospects this spring. McGraw got to spend enough time with the staff to know they are a force to be reckoned with, both on the field and on the recruiting trail.

"The coaching staff was great," McGraw said. "Coach Martinez was great. He would be my position coach and he's a high energy guy. He's put a lot of defensive backs in the league. Coach Jones just preached to me about where I stand with them. I'm one of the top guys in my grade they are recruiting."

ESPN article makes it sound like OSU is going to be a big factor in this recruitment.

Cornelius “Corn” Elder ultimately picked Miami (Fla.) --where he can play basketball and football -- he did build a strong relationship with Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and Co., and that could go a long way in the recruitment of McGraw.

“They went pretty hard after Corn, so I got to see how good they are to potential [commitments]," McGraw said. "I heard nothing but good things from him."

McGraw isn’t resting on his laurels or looking at it as a way to relax heading into his junior season. In fact, the Buckeyes offer, which he calls one of his biggest to date, has done nothing but push him to the next level.

"All of these schools that have offered me are great programs and I'm going to look at all of them but a handful of programs have maybe separated a little bit so far just with how they have recruited me," he explained. "Alabama, South Carolina, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, I think that's it."

Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth defensive back Rico McGraw didn't work out, but he did give the latest on his recruitment. McGraw picked up an offer from Ohio State and is considering the Buckeyes. He is also hoping to pick up offers from Florida and Miami. Former Ensworth teammate Corn Elder committed to the Hurricanes back in February and McGraw is very interested in checking out Coral Gables at some point.

"I was at Tennessee about three weeks ago and I watched one of their spring practices," he said. "I really like what they have going on over there now. The new coaches have created a new vibe over there and I like it a lot. The coaches have energy and that is great.

I don't think that gif fits. Soon what? Soon he's gonna have to go home and handle his own business thinking about the girl he could never actually touch in real life? Shoulda' saved that one for Vandy reference.
Not to be too explicit, I think it's referring to a four letter word that starts with an "R"

If Dooley was here I think he would be bama. But with butch I think we have an edge for him. Jmo
