I'm sure you will disappear once again when things go wrong. Maybe you should make another ban bet... Oh wait...

Do I think we get to a bowl? Yes. Do I think we beat Vandy? Yes. Will players improve? I'm sure, but will it be enough? I'm just not gonna act like we have all this talent, when it's not the case.

Your act is a dime a dozen. We've seen it all before...SGM, AlaskaVol, Fijivol and the list goes on and on. Get a life.

i don't see how people don't get that CBJ has some talent to work with - it is really next year where the talent dropoff could happen unless we really recruit well this year

Thank you :hi:

Vandy hasn't beaten a single ranked opponent since James Franklin became their coach, have they? Beating Ole Miss, Mizzou and Uconn isn't impressive.

Franklin's a decent coach, I'll give him that, certainly better than Dooley. But the reason he hasn't beaten any good SEC teams is because he doesn't have the talent to do so.

Stop being scared of Vanderbilt.

Dooley was 1-1 vs Franklin.. Its not as if Franklin owned our worst coach in 50 years. I think thats right, 50 years.

I kick your dog or something? You clearly have a problem with me. You keep taking shots at me in every post since we've been having this discussion. Not sure why. You need a hug?

Disappear? Is this fade route's 2nd account? I haven't gone anywhere, I'm here in the recruiting forum everyday.

I've been reading the Forum for awhile now and Ron in my opinion is one of the more common sense posters on the Forum. Really don't understand some of the hate!

Yes, these class rankings are not as indicative of our talent level as they should be: we've had plenty of defections and Dooley did not recruit for posterity on the lines and in the LB core. But, to Ron's point, do not underestimate the significance of competent coaching. That team last year should have won 8 or 9 games with a competent head coach and a competent defensive scheme (ie Wilcox).

Preach Prof!

my act? What are you talking about? Disagreeing about the talent level means I'm not allowed to express it? Glad you got a couple likes out of that though. Move along

Disagreeing is fine, but you were also taking shots at Ron for no reason whatsoever.

How many of those have played like their ratings? There are so many variables that come into play once a signee starts practicing. You can't just bring up stars from 3 years ago and expect them to be a 10 win team.

Bama, LSU, UF, and all those schools have a lot of busts. The difference is that they minimize the busts by bringing in a crazy amount of talented players along with the busts.

UT has not done that at all which is why we haven't had a winning season in 3 years. If our roster was good, most of those guys wouldn't be starting.

Surely not all of those 4 and 5 * guys are busts. Coaching can make them reach their potential. Hopefully we will have good coaching.

i don't recall myself, Swanson, st18, or any other of the more optimistic posters projecting 10 wins - i believe we were more saying we do have more talent than vandy and will have the talent edge in at minimum 7 games this year and 7 wins is not crazy to expect

i would also say that i can't remember the last time UT had that many 4 star+ guys at important positions that were upperclassmen - it has been a long time - we keep giving up on 4 star guys b/c they didnt dominate as fresh, soph, juniors (Jsmith and Cmiller really come to mind here) - the fact is that many players don't come into their own until they are a junior-senior

we are now are upper-classmen laden and have a lot of highly rated guys - it is just a different situation than we have been in for prob at least 5 years

I shouldn't of said busts because some of our players could be solid backups or even situational starters. Some players may even wake up this year and show out, but we can't expect the whole team to play like a bunch of 4 stars and win a high amount of games. Some players are having to play because there simply isn't anyone better. It is what it is.

Just go back and look at other schools classes. A good class, you usually get around 6 or 7 starters when they are seniors.

I randomly chose Alabama's 2009 class. Out of that class, 8 **** in that class were busts. The reason it doesn't hurt them is that they signed 18 **** or ***** talent.

Saban is the best talent evaluator for his team in the nation and its not even close, and he was around a 40% success rate when it comes to signing high-end talent. UT won't get to where we need to be until we start recruiting like that.

How do you know we have more talent than Vandy right now? Stars aside, what position group(besides OL) is better than Vandy? Their freshman Azubike had 4 sacks, that may be more than our whole team last year.

Shula recruited just as well, if not better, than Dooley did while he was here. Saban had 18 returning starters his first year and only won 6 games. You are looking too much into the ranking of a player.

qft.

I think we are similar in talent this year to Vandy, than more people would like to admit.
We have better talent, but its not "that" far off. Last year, we were the more talented team.
