everybody only sees six? Color me optimistic but it's not like we don't have talent. I see at least seven.
My bad. 6. But we're a lot closer to Vandy than we'd like to be.
"I've seen a lot of scout say route running was what they wanted to see," Patterson told IT of the intrigue around his workouts. "I came in and just tried to improve on my route running, make sure everything is coming in place."
Patterson, who is projected in the first round and as a potential top 10 pick continues to wow scouts following the NFL Combine and Tennessee's Pro Day. Several analysts see Patterson as the clear choice for the Pittsburgh Steelers who brought head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley to Knoxville last week.
Before Tomlin left town, he went on record with some glowing remarks about Jones: "Butch is a football coach, man. He's a good teacher. I've got two sons 11 and 12. I wouldn't hesitate to leave them with Butch & Co. Just as a parent, I think that says it all. Obviously at the University of Tennessee, SEC football, he has all the ingredients for greatness and that's what I expect."
Bray, much like the rest of the future NFL Vols, has improved his draft status immensely in the days since the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Ind. By all accounts, interviews went well for Bray and his arm strength impressed. Bray's stock has risen from a late rounder to a possible second- or third-round grade by several analysts who list the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills (workout April 6), New York Jets and Oakland Raiders as possible landing spots.
"As soon as coach (Jim) Chaney was let go," Bray said. "I kind of was still 50/50 and talked with the receivers, found out they were leaving and decided to leave."
One player who is a bit more of a mystery is Hunter. While Hunter is sure to go in the first two rounds it is a question of where. He showed up at the NFL combine at a sleek 6-feet-4, 196 pounds and wowed scouts with a towering 39 1/2-inch vertical and a 4.44 40-yard dash. He has since bulked up to 200 pounds. The Detroit Lions expended one of their 30 visits to bring Hunter in for a visit earlier this month. The Carolina Panthers also worked out both Hunter and Patterson following Pro Day. Carolina wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl was at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center and spoke at length with Vol wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. Hunter was also seen in a Cleveland Browns beanie in the Tennessee football complex last week.
Mychal Rivera, like his teammates, seems to be climbing draft boards are well. He did gain an NFL Combine invite where he showcased his pass-catching skills with only one drop on the day, an effort he mirrored at Pro Day. Analysts seems to think Rivera is a solid fifth rounder. His 4.78 speed and 6-foot-3, 242-pound frame seem to fit the stretch-the-field tight end style that is becoming so common in the NFL. Rivera will likely be a steal for a team in the later rounds. His size from a blocking standpoint seems to be the only concern that has been raised as there isn't much room to pack on any more pounds on his frame.
First of all you're full of garbage. I can guarantee you I've seen him more than you from Cleveland to Miami. Making a comment is not whining. Every player wants a foul called not just Lebron. And No you wouldn't tell him. You're the keyboard Guy that talks smack but cowers like a girl if you were face to face with a brotha. Its cowardice dude. All that thug nonsense you're ranting I'm not going there. Too old for those games. Stay on point little man.If I met him, I would tell him I dislike how he plays the game.
Second of all I'm not talking one game. I've seen him play live 3-5 times and I watch a lot of basketball, in which whatever team he is on will be on ESPN 3 times a week. I've literally been 10 feet away from him cursing at a ref (in which he did all game) because he got bumped or hit.
/Rant on Ethugs
-VolQuest.com.Next Saturday it looks like the Vols should have a good group of players in town, including Dominique Booth and Drew Barker will be in, but the big event in April is looking like the Orange and White game for the Vols.
Both Cortez McDowell and D'Andre Payne have told Volquest.com they will be in Knoxville that weekend and both are very high on the Vols right now. There were some rumblings earlier this week that someone was planning on committing and nothing ended up coming about, but after talking to McDowell earlier in the week we believe it's safe to say Tennessee has a lot of momentum there.
You honestly think Vandy's talent level is almost on par with UT right now? I think many of us are just used to bad coaching, which makes our talent level look much worse than it really is. Good coaching on defense last fall and we would have played in a January bowl game.
Rivals rankings:
2010, UT - 9th, VU - 61st
2011, UT - 13th, VU - 70th
2012, UT - 17th, VU - 29th
2013, UT - 21st, VU - 19th
The only class Vandy comes close to UT is 2013 and very few of them will make an impact this fall anyway. And yes, UT has lost quite a few due to attrition and going to the NFL early but still, UT has waaaaaay more talent than Vandy. We've just had awful coaching the last few years.
And I'm not trying to call you out, Kingston, you're a good poster. I'm just trying to point out that we shouldn't lose to Vanderbilt and the only reason we did last year is because of awful coaching, not a lack of talent. I expect UT to destroy them this fall.
