A full 100 miles? I think they have shorter routes available.

If he's reasonably in shape and can do 30 miles rides now, I suspect it's doable if he's riding several times a week. If he's much below that level he might have a problem.

Anything is doable. I'm sure he'll finish but its gonna be a long day.

I think you do.

I might.

You have a nice bike as far as I'm concerned. However, what is deemed "nice" in my area is kind of mediocre in that area. Not once did I see a bicycle shaped object (BSO). Some bikes were in need of maintenance, sure, but not a single department store bike was seen.

My bike was probably considered low end for the bikes that I saw as I climbed Lookout Mountain.

I guess it depends on the surface, but riding 100 miles on dirt/gravel has got to be like 120+ miles on the road, right?

That really depends on the terrain. 100 miles of mountain biking is probably 175-200 miles of road riding, effort-wise. Mountain biking takes a full body effort and is generally more stop and go, not something you can get into a rhythm in and just fly. It takes a lot more mental stamina, too. After a 10-20 mile race I'm generally more worn out than a 50-75 mile road ride.

I'll train 75% of my time on my road bike for mountain bike racing, but that's just purely for endurance and fitness. The rest of the time will just be bike handling skills practice and whatnot.

The top guys are finishing in 8+ hrs. good riders 10 hrs. its basically forest road up the mountains trails down then repeat. The biggest climb takes 2+ hours.

Challenge accepted.

It doesn't look like I'll be doing the 24 hr race in July anymore. Last day to sign up is the end of this month and it's expensive. Guess I'll just stick to the IHRS races and compete in more road races.

Built another wheel today. Rear wheel for my mountain bike. Pacenti 650b CL25 rims. White Industries M16 Disc rear hub. DT Swiss Champion spokes. Came in at 990 grams. That's just a tad heavier than my Shimano RS80 wheel on my road bike. It's going to get bent fast.
