Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

Little to no chance. It's ashame, because he made UT relevant. Now, look what we have to put up with for at least one more year.

Umm...so if we make the NCAAT, and then next year we have a legit shot at winning the SECT, THAT"S going to be "putting up with" something bad?

You guys are ridiculous. Martin isn't Dooley or Todd Raleigh.

Coach Pearl is not coming back. Period end of story. That being said, I don't want them to fire Coach Martin because I have absolutely no confidence the AD would hire anybody any better.

Ky and Calapari say hello.

Even though Cal hasn't been charged with cheating, it just goes to show that Pearl was not good at cheating. How did Pearl get caught, but Cal has arguably the best job in NCAA bball? Cal is either very good at cheating, or he doesn't cheat. Pearl was a cheater, and a bad one at that. When he was cheating at the BBQ, it was extremely careless of him to allow photographs to be taken. That's not good cheating. When NCAA investigators shoved a photo taken at his house, and Pearl denied knowing the location, that's terrible cheating and equally poor decision making. A good cheater would have realized he was caught, take the slap on the wrist, and move on. Instead, Pearl just lied and cheated some more. Pearl doesn't have a coaching job. Cal does.

It's as if a kid a year too young at a BBQ is lumped in with paying recruits etc...laughable, Bruce was screwed because he lied.

I think it's ridiculous everyone is acting like Martin is a horrible coach. He's done nothing to warrant being fired. Of course he's in absolutely no danger of that, but if some of you morons got your way and he was fired, there is no way in hades any coach worth a crap would come coach at a place where a coach taking over basically a rebuilding job was canned after winning 18 and 20 games.

I'm not defending Coach Pearl. I do think he got the death penalty for shop lifting. All you have to do is look at Cal's contrail if you need evidence of cheating. And anyone that thinks the NCAA doesn't use "selective enforcement", well.....ok.

Pearl at Iowa was against Illinois and their assistants for some recruit, and both parties were dirty and cheating the whole time. Pearl secretly recorded a phone call by on of the Illinois coaches, and turned it over to the NCAA. The recording contained info on a ton of things that Illinois gave to the recruit. That act wasn't the cheating, but it was whistleblowing obviously.

Whistle blowing ain't cheating. It's more in line with keeping the competition honest. You can't criticize the man for trying to insure a level playing field for his institution in regard to recruiting practices. I wouldn't consider that a negative trait.

The BBQ was an activity deemed illegal by the NCAA on the basis that it gave him a tactical advantage in high-level recruiting. You're an idiot if you don't see how that's cheating.

If it weren't cheating, why would Bruce lie? Why didn't he say, "yeah that's my house, I was having Aaron Craft, Josh Selby, and Jordan McRae over."

The guy has been nothing but a UT ambassador since the incident. Any chance that if Cuonzo doesn't make a major improvement next year that Hart brings back Pearl?

My initial reaction is no way in hell.... but this situation clearly has no precedent.

I sure hope so.:good!:

If you want to use that logic, why would they have it out against Pearl? He was winning games and creating a lot of excitement. What do they have to gain from banning him from coaching?

Like I said, the whistleblowing wasn't the cheating, but this case has been documented and all parties were exposed as cheaters. Look it up.

YES as much chance as we bring back DD as football coach, I like Pearl but no way ever, Cuonzo is doing a pretty good job lets give the man till next year, then we will know what we got, next year sweet 16.

There is no proof whatsoever oh his cheating at Iowa. I mean, your cal pre-Ky attitude re evidence and Pearl pre-UT evidence a bit at odds to say the least.

Well if you don't think some schools pull more weight than others with the AA then there is no reason to continue the debate. Couple that with the fact of a weak AD in Hamilton that's why Pearl is no longer coaching. You answered that question in your post where you state Pearl had taped conversations with a player and yet nothing came of it.

Do you actually think the same outcome would have happened at a basketball power like Duke, KY, or NC?

You read my post wrong. I don't think CCM should be fired. I don't think he'll ever get us to the heights we achieved under Pearl but I don't think he should be fired. I like him.

No because

1. Coach K, Cal, or Williams would probably not need to put themselves in a position to cheat

2. If they did, they would most likely be smart enough to own up to it when they were caught. No way do any of those three lie to NCAA investigators over something so petty. But again, would probably never happen because those coached would probably never put themselves in that position.

I highly doubt Pearl would have been fired if he hadn't lied. He shouldn't have put himself in that position though. He made all the wrong moves.
