A Michigan elementary school is defending its decision to confiscate a third-graders batch of homemade cupcakes because the birthday treats were decorated with plastic green Army soldiers.

Casey Fountain told Fox News that the principal of his son’s elementary school called the cupcakes “insensitive” — in light of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

“It disgusted me,” he said. “It’s vile they lump true American heroes with psychopathic killers.”

I agree with the schools decision. Army men are dangerous. Even american military men. A cupcake like this represents murder,tyranny and power. I for one am disgusted. I believe we should ban any decorated cupcake. A soccer player cake should be banned as well since they kick each other (sometimes on purpose and sometimes not) and they show bad sportsmanship by carrying on after they fall. Cupcakes are the downfall of this country and our childrens well being. What a travesty.

I think this was going way too far by the school.

How do you know the teacher and principal are democrats or you assuming? There are nut cases in both parties. One cannot Imply that all or most educators in k-12 are liberal.

All educators are not liberals. One of the most conservative counties in TN has one of the lowest graduation rates in the state. Hancock county ranks 114 just ahead of the liberal Memphis City with Union County coming in at 116, I would assume Union County to be very conservative per their location.

These are 2010-2011 ratings.

When I was in high school in Knox County they had programs for the country kids to get off school early to go work jobs or work the farm..and that was Knox County. I assume hayseed places like Union and Hancock probably have that going on big time. These kids also never graduated from my recollection.

Just don't have birthday parties at school & that will take care of it. In light of all the over reaction BS, don't plan fun stuff at school anymore or the higher ups will take away your joy to have fun.

I don't get it. The school has every right to allow it. Yeah, it's a little silly, but who cares? If they don't like it, they should go to another school.

I've enjoyed their roles in the Toy Story movies. We're now at a point where the little plastic Army dudes on cupcakes are bad. Shaking the head.

This makes sense. The rationaliztion used by the principal seems inane, but birthdays should be celebrated at home. The world today isn't what it used to be. Politics have overrun all aspects of life and someone is always bound to be offended. Keep it simple and make schools stay focused on education. Lord knows, that's what we need to focus on. We keep falling faster and faster behind the rest of the world when it comes to educating our children.

I love this line of thinking...usually offered by individuals who then send their children to places to be taught by such individuals.

If I knowingly and willingly sent my children to a place where their minds would be corrupted, I would feel as though, if I were not actually abusing my children in making said decision, I were a piss poor parent.

Yet, there are plenty of individuals that constantly complain about the teachers union, how terrible public schools are, textbook selection, the erosion of morals in schools, etc., and then willingly place their children in said environment in order that their children's minds are formed and developed by said system. It is absolutely amazing.

Maybe the argument is that they do not have the money to pay for private education and education is mandatory; yet, I would imagine that most of these individuals own a car or two, have a television or two, have either cable or satellite, have a microwave, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Thus, I would reduce it to misplaced priorities on the part of the parents.

I have no problem with libtards or religious nuts teaching my non existant kids in school. Being a parent means you have to interact with your kids and know what they are being taught and not amusing that it fits within your moral standard(s). Some people might not be smart enough though to actually understand the garbage their kids are being fed. It reminds me of 8th grade in Knoxville when our entire fall semester of US history was watching Roots. While an interesting show, the third time around it gets a bit boring and parents had to say enough is enough.

Never let the school parent your children. Modern parents I think tend to lose sight of this concept and look at K-12 as free-ish babysitting.
