What beer do you drink and how much is a 6 pack before taxes?

I switch it up. Lately I have been digging Hop Wallop but I have to shoot into GA to get it. I usually go for the IPA's and pale ales. They usually fall between $10-$11 per 6 pack. Our state has missed out on a few breweries because of the taxes and will keep missing out while craft beer booms.

Also, what kind of taxes are being deemed excessive? Is it the local sales tax or more than that?

The tax is ancient and structured oddly. Look at Fix the Beer Tax. There is good info there. There is a state mandated 17% wholesale tax on beer but the money goes to the county in which the beer was made. That drives prices up for everyone and keeps craft brewers out. We only have a handful of them in the state.

So, why the big run up now opposing a tax that's been on the books for 60 years. Consumer will gain a little with the tax structure changed. Politicians and producers will pocket a big chunk.

The few craft brewers in the state are tired of getting hammered by this tax so they decided to band together and fight it. Most states laws have progress but ours just sat still. SweetWater beer out of Atlanta is $2-$3 on the six pack less than Yazoo out of Nashville in Tennessee. As the end consumer we are getting screwed, the breweries are getting screwed and small businesses are getting screwed. I do a lot of work with breweries in their supply chain and I get to see the effect first hand. Alaska has a 5% beer tax and they are 2nd on the list, we are 12% higher.

best way to cook deer on the grill is too cut the tenderloin in 2 inch thick pieces, butterfly it, wrap it in bacon and grill it. More than likely its still gonna be a little tough and dry though if you have never done it before.

Will try that for the tenderloin. How long you grill each side?

So, if you buy a six pack that cost $8, how much tax is applied to that? I'm just not familiar.

You see the sales tax but the $8 would have been in the sticker price to cover the wholesale tax. The store or bar add marks up their price to cover it. If this law changes I doubt we see a lowering of price on beer in Tennessee. We will see a better selection and our craft brewers will make more money. In turn they will grow while new breweries aren't scared away. Beer is booming and TN is falling behind.

Well, good luck with it. I'll find out in a month or so when I return if beer cost me more there than out West. Unfortunately, I won't be able to purchase my favorite western beers there so I'll have to find a substitute.

I used to butcher my own deer every year, except for one. I took it to a processor to have burger and sausage made. I would cut the roast off of the front and hind quarters and soak them in iced salt water for 6-8 hours, then like Sly said, cut them against the grain in about 1-1 1/2 inch slices.

I liked to marinate it in Dr. Pe....I mean Wishbone Italian dressing with red, green peppers, mushrooms and onions about an hour or two. Then grill it to MR and hoped everyone else hated it.

I do the Italian dressing but never the veggies. I will try that.

The roast is already frozen. Gonna thaw it in the fridge, brine it for 6-8 hours, then slice. Sound about right?

What's the percentage of alcohol in beer in Tennessee? Is it 3.2 or the higher octane?

It varies by beer. Our "college party" beers hover around 4.5% to 5% but the craft stuff goes higher. Generally they are around the 7% mark but most of the craft brew folks aren't chasing ABV in beer. We don't have "Sunday beer" like some states.

It does to me.

Most everyone I've ever talked to that said they didn't like venison was because of the strong gamey flavor. The salt water will draw a lot of the blood out but still leave a mild disincentive wild game flavor.

if it's above 5.9% (i'm pretty sure because bud light platinum is 5.9) then they have to sell it in a liquor store, which is equally retarded.

In Montana and California, you get it all in the same place. Beer, wine and liquor. It's sold in the grocery stores, some pharmacies, etc. CVS is a big pharm here and they have just about the best beer, liquor and wine selection. Better than Costco anyway.

they've been pushing to change that ancient law for years (allowing wine and liquore to be sold in groceries) Unfortunately every year we hear the same ole song and dance about how it is going to shut the little guys down.

last I heard TN Repubs were going to bring it to the table again.

I have a SweetWater IPA in my hand right now that is 6.3% . I got it at a gas station here in TN. AB/InBev started distributing Sweetwater so it is abundant now. It is retarded to make any beer be sold in the liquor store because of ABV. If a beer falls into the 6% range it has to be sold in the liquor store. 6.9% is ok in a regular store. 7% has to be sold in liquor stores. Luckily I am about 15 minutes from an awesome beer store in north GA. I just have to cross the state line to get a much better beer selection. I want that selection here though.

I'd like it to become a thing, but I would miss all the local liquor stores.

i personally think it is just fear mongering. I mean, the grocers aren't going to carry all your hard to find stuff. There will still be a need for liquor stores, etc, especially for wine enthusiasts. I don't like the idea of laws being in place to simply keep people in business. We are supposed to operate in a free market.
